Rocket Lab (Nasdaq: RKLB) is the strongest fit if you want an operating space company with the broadest revenue base and a large disclosed backlog. Intuitive Machines (Nasdaq: LUNR) suits investors who want lunar infrastructure, satellite systems and national-security exposure but can tolerate customer concentration, contract losses and acquisition integration. AST SpaceMobile (Nasdaq: ASTS) offers the most direct-to-device network upside, with correspondingly high constellation, spectrum, regulatory, financing and commercialization risk.
There is no universally best choice. A sound decision also requires a same-date comparison of valuation, cash, debt, dilution, growth expectations and your own time horizon and risk tolerance. The operating figures below are company-reported 2025 results and 2026 outlook items, so they should be paired with the latest market prices and filings before you invest.

What each company is actually selling
These stocks are often grouped together because all three operate in space, but their economic models are different. Rocket Lab sells launch services and a wide range of space hardware and mission services. Intuitive Machines delivers lunar missions and is expanding into satellite, data and national-security programs. AST SpaceMobile is building a communications network designed to connect ordinary mobile phones from low Earth orbit when terrestrial coverage is unavailable.
| Company | Reported 2025 revenue | Backlog or commercial commitments | Primary business model | Near-term execution focus |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rocket Lab | $602 million, reported by Rocket Lab in 2026 | $1.85 billion backlog, reported by Rocket Lab in 2026 | Launch, spacecraft, components, optical systems and on-orbit services | Maintain Electron and HASTE cadence, convert backlog and develop Neutron |
| Intuitive Machines | $210.059 million, reported in its 2026 filing | $213.1 million contracted backlog at 2025 year-end; approximately $943 million combined-company backlog cited in February 2026 after acquisitions | Lunar missions, Commercial Lunar Payload Services, Near Space Network Services, satellite systems and national security | Execute lunar missions, integrate KinetX and Lanteris and scale government work |
| AST SpaceMobile | $70.9 million, reported in 2026 | More than $1.2 billion of aggregate contracted commercial-partner revenue commitments; not the same as recognized backlog | Direct-to-device cellular broadband from low-Earth-orbit satellites | Manufacture and launch satellites, secure spectrum and regulatory approvals, and expand service |
The table’s figures are not interchangeable. A backlog is generally work under contract that is expected to be performed, while AST SpaceMobile’s partner commitments relate to a future revenue-sharing network. The timing, conditions and collectability of each item can differ substantially.

Rocket Lab: the most diversified operating space business
What the company does
Rocket Lab describes an end-to-end platform covering launch services, spacecraft design and manufacturing, space components, optical systems and on-orbit management. Its Electron rocket had completed 75 successful missions and deployed more than 200 spacecraft through December 31, 2025. During 2025, it flew 21 successful Electron and HASTE missions.
Why the financial profile stands out
Rocket Lab reported $602 million of 2025 revenue and a $1.85 billion backlog in 2026 materials. The revenue is generated across several activities rather than one single mission or constellation. That diversification can reduce dependence on any one launch, although launch failures, customer delays and government-program timing can still affect quarterly results.
A major disclosed award is an $816 million Space Development Agency contract to design and build 18 missile-warning and tracking satellites. Such a program increases visibility, but contract execution, milestones, costs and government funding still determine when the award becomes revenue and profit.
The Neutron opportunity and risk
Rocket Lab is developing Neutron, a medium-lift launch vehicle. A successful vehicle could expand the company’s addressable launch work and improve strategic importance. It also creates development cost and schedule risk. Rocket Lab’s filings warn that a failure or delay in Neutron, inadequate launch-pad utilization, spacecraft failures, regulation or competition could materially harm results.
Electron cadence is another practical indicator. A high annual launch count supports fixed-cost absorption and customer confidence; a slow cadence or a failed mission can interrupt both. Investors should therefore follow launch dates, mission outcomes, production capacity and the conversion of the reported backlog into recognized revenue, gross margin and cash.
Who Rocket Lab fits
RKLB is the clearest fit for an investor who wants current operating scale, multiple space revenue streams and visible government and commercial work. It is not a low-risk stock: Neutron spending, launch reliability, defense-contract execution and valuation can overwhelm the benefits of diversification. The key question is whether future growth and Neutron success are already reflected in the share price.
Intuitive Machines: lunar infrastructure with a rapidly changing scope
What the company does
Intuitive Machines provides lunar missions, Commercial Lunar Payload Services work, Near Space Network Services, satellite and space systems and national-security capabilities. Its strategy is broader than a single lunar lander, but lunar execution remains central to the investment case.

Reported numbers and what they mean
The company reported 2025 revenue of $210.059 million. Its 2025 filing showed $213.1 million of contracted backlog at year end, down $115.3 million during the year as work was performed. The same filing recorded loss contracts on IM-3 and IM-4. A loss contract means the expected cost of completing the work exceeds the remaining consideration, so a large contract can produce accounting losses rather than attractive profits.
In a March 19, 2026 earnings release, management described 2025 as a transformational year, citing completion of the second lunar mission, expansion into national-security programs, completion of the KinetX Aerospace acquisition and the announced acquisition of Lanteris Space Systems. The company also highlighted Space Development Agency tracking-layer work and an MDA SHIELD indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity vehicle.
After the acquisitions, Intuitive Machines cited a combined-company February backlog of approximately $943 million and guided to 2026 revenue of $900 million to $1 billion. That guidance incorporates acquired businesses and assumptions about execution. It should not be read as a guaranteed cash inflow or as evidence that the entire backlog will carry the same margin.
Execution and integration questions
For LUNR, mission execution and contract economics matter together. A successful lunar delivery can strengthen future awards, while a delay or failure can consume cash, trigger penalties or reduce customer confidence. The recorded IM-3 and IM-4 loss contracts show why revenue growth alone is not enough.
The KinetX and Lanteris transactions add capabilities and potential scale, but they also introduce integration risk. Investors should examine purchase consideration, acquired cash flow, retention of technical staff, one-time integration costs and whether the combined backlog converts into profitable work. Government programs can be affected by appropriations and schedule changes, and the company warns about customer concentration, limited operating history, sustainable order rates, government-funding disruption and contract losses.
Who Intuitive Machines fits
LUNR fits an investor seeking exposure to lunar infrastructure, satellite manufacturing and data services, and national-security space programs who accepts a less predictable earnings path. It is most appropriate when you can tolerate customer and program concentration, acquisition execution risk and the possibility that a large award produces weak or negative margins.
AST SpaceMobile: a direct-to-device network still moving toward scale
How the network is intended to work
AST SpaceMobile is building a low-Earth-orbit cellular broadband network intended to connect standard 2G, 4G LTE and 5G smartphones directly from satellites when terrestrial coverage is unavailable. The company expects to share revenue with mobile-network operators rather than replace their retail relationships. That model could let subscribers use familiar devices and phone numbers, but it depends on operator agreements, spectrum rights, network performance and regulatory approvals.

Commercial evidence and capital requirements
AST SpaceMobile reported $70.9 million of 2025 revenue, making it the earliest-stage commercial business of the three on reported sales. It also reported more than $1.2 billion of aggregate contracted commercial-partner revenue commitments and received a $175 million prepayment from stc Group. These commitments and the prepayment are important signs of partner support, but they are not equivalent to recurring service revenue already recognized in the income statement.
The company targeted 45 to 60 satellites in orbit by the end of 2026. Its 2026 filing estimated capital costs of approximately $21 million to $23 million per Block 2 satellite after the initial launches, while noting that early launches are more expensive. The total funding requirement therefore depends on production rate, launch pricing, ground infrastructure, working capital, regulatory work and the timing of customer payments.
What can go wrong
AST SpaceMobile’s thesis is concentrated in one network build-out. Manufacturing dozens of large satellites, launching them on schedule, operating them reliably, securing spectrum and obtaining regulatory permission are separate gating items. A delay in any one can postpone commercial service and increase financing needs.
The company also has to demonstrate attractive economics for mobile-network operators. Partner commitments become durable revenue only when the network reaches usable coverage, service quality and a billing model that customers adopt. Additional equity or debt financing could dilute existing shareholders or increase financial risk if internally generated cash is insufficient.
Who AST SpaceMobile fits
ASTS fits an investor seeking the largest direct-to-device network optionality and willing to accept very high technology, constellation, spectrum, regulatory, financing and commercialization risk. It should be treated as a high-volatility growth position rather than a substitute for a diversified operating space company.

Comparing the three on the issues that drive returns
Current scale and revenue quality
Rocket Lab has the largest reported 2025 revenue and the broadest mix of launch and space-systems activities. Intuitive Machines has meaningful service revenue, but its contract portfolio has already produced loss-contract provisions and is being reshaped by acquisitions. AST SpaceMobile is earlier in commercialization: its 2025 revenue confirms initial monetization, while the larger value proposition depends on future network deployment.
Backlog certainty
Backlog should be separated into signed, funded work; contracted work with performance conditions; and aspirational market opportunity. Rocket Lab’s $1.85 billion figure is the most substantial disclosed backlog in this group, but it still depends on performance, customer decisions, contract changes and timing. Intuitive Machines’ $213.1 million year-end contracted backlog fell as work was performed, and the approximately $943 million combined figure reflects acquisitions and therefore is not directly comparable with the pre-acquisition number. AST SpaceMobile’s more than $1.2 billion represents aggregate commercial-partner revenue commitments for a future network, not a mature service backlog.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
For any of the three, ask what portion is funded, cancellable, dependent on a milestone, exposed to a single customer or expected beyond the next 12 months. A large headline number without those details can give a false sense of security.
Business concentration
Rocket Lab is diversified by launch, spacecraft, components, optical systems and government programs. Intuitive Machines is more concentrated in lunar, government and satellite programs, with additional concentration created by major customers and newly acquired operations. AST SpaceMobile is concentrated in one direct-to-device network thesis and the ability of mobile operators to commercialize it.
Execution and capital intensity
Rocket Lab must fund and schedule Neutron while maintaining Electron operations and launch-pad utilization. Intuitive Machines must deliver lunar missions, manage loss-contract exposure and integrate KinetX and Lanteris. AST SpaceMobile must finance and deploy a satellite constellation, gateways and related infrastructure before broad recurring service revenue is established.
Commercialization timing
Rocket Lab already sells launch and space systems. Intuitive Machines is scaling services and acquisitions, so its growth rate may be high but less uniform. AST SpaceMobile is moving from initial activation and partner commitments toward broad direct-to-device service, making its revenue timing the most dependent on technical and regulatory milestones.
How valuation changes the answer
The operating comparison does not establish which stock is cheapest. The available company figures do not provide a same-date, apples-to-apples valuation set, and share prices, market capitalizations, cash balances and debt change over time. Before buying, collect the latest price and share count, then calculate:
- Market capitalization: current share price multiplied by fully diluted shares, including options, restricted stock and likely acquisition-related issuance.
- Enterprise value:
market capitalization + total debt - cash, adjusted for material non-operating assets or liabilities. - Revenue multiple: enterprise value or market capitalization divided by trailing revenue, with the period clearly labeled.
- Forward multiple: valuation divided by management guidance only after checking what acquisitions, milestones and assumptions are included.
- Cash runway and dilution: compare cash on hand with expected capital spending, operating losses, launch costs and financing plans.
Do not compare AST SpaceMobile’s partner commitments with Rocket Lab’s backlog as though they were identical revenue streams, and do not value Intuitive Machines’ $900 million to $1 billion 2026 outlook without considering acquisition integration and contract margins. A company with faster growth can still be a poor investment if the market price assumes flawless execution.

| Your priority | Most natural fit | What you are accepting |
|---|---|---|
| Current operating scale and several space revenue streams | Rocket Lab | Neutron development, launch reliability, defense execution and potentially demanding valuation |
| Lunar missions plus satellite and national-security exposure | Intuitive Machines | Customer concentration, loss contracts, government funding changes and acquisition integration |
| Maximum direct-to-device network upside | AST SpaceMobile | Constellation manufacturing, spectrum and regulatory approvals, financing, operator economics and delayed commercialization |
| Lower tolerance for a single-program failure | Usually Rocket Lab, subject to valuation | Diversification does not remove launch, competition or Neutron risk |
| Ability to hold through a long, milestone-driven build-out | AST SpaceMobile or Intuitive Machines, depending on thesis | Greater volatility, uncertain timing and possible dilution or contract losses |
These are fit categories, not price targets or personal recommendations. A conservative investor may prefer to wait for a lower valuation or clearer execution even when the business is attractive. A speculative investor may accept milestone risk but should size the position so a launch failure, contract loss or financing round does not threaten the broader portfolio.

A practical due-diligence process before buying
- Set the decision horizon. Decide whether your thesis is based on the next four quarters, a multi-year development cycle or a long-term network build. The appropriate evidence differs for each.
- Pull the latest filings and earnings release. Confirm revenue, cash, debt, share count, contract terms, guidance and any changes after the 2025 results summarized here.
- Normalize backlog. Separate funded orders, cancellable contracts, options, partner commitments and acquired backlog. Record the expected delivery period and major customer for each material item.
- Map milestone risk. For Rocket Lab, track Electron and HASTE cadence and Neutron schedule. For Intuitive Machines, track IM-3 and IM-4 economics, lunar mission readiness and acquisition integration. For AST SpaceMobile, track satellite production, launches, spectrum permissions, gateways and service activation.
- Test cash needs. Compare cash and expected operating cash flow with Neutron development, lunar missions, satellite manufacturing, launches and ground infrastructure. Identify when new debt or equity might be required.
- Check concentration. Read customer tables and contract disclosures for dependence on one government agency, operator, launch customer or acquired business.
- Model dilution. Include stock-based compensation, convertible instruments, acquisition shares and a possible capital raise in your per-share assumptions.
- Define exit and review rules. Write down which missed milestone, margin deterioration, contract cancellation or financing event would invalidate your thesis before emotions take over.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
Treating every commitment as revenue
Backlog is not cash in the bank. Work can be delayed, modified, cancelled or become less profitable. AST SpaceMobile’s partner commitments depend on a network that is still being built, while Intuitive Machines’ filing demonstrates that contracted work can result in loss contracts.
Using revenue growth without checking margins
Rocket Lab’s larger revenue base does not automatically mean higher future returns. Intuitive Machines’ guidance could rise sharply after acquisitions while integration costs or contract losses reduce earnings. AST SpaceMobile can report early revenue while still requiring substantial capital to reach broad service.
Ignoring government and regulatory dependencies
Government awards can be valuable and long-lived, but appropriations, milestones and agency priorities affect timing. Launch licenses, spectrum rights and communications approvals can be just as important as engineering for AST SpaceMobile.

A valuation based on one company’s 2025 filing and another’s later acquisition announcement can mislead. Use a common measurement date for price, market capitalization, enterprise value, cash and diluted shares, then label every forecast period.
Positioning a milestone stock like a mature industrial
Rocket Lab, Intuitive Machines and AST SpaceMobile can all experience sharp price moves around launches, contract awards, financing and guidance changes. Position size, diversification and a written downside plan matter as much as the headline growth story.
Bottom line
Choose Rocket Lab when your priority is the most established and diversified operating platform. Choose Intuitive Machines when lunar and national-security exposure outweighs contract and integration uncertainty. Choose AST SpaceMobile when you are deliberately taking the highest execution and financing risk for direct-to-device network upside. Recheck the choice against current valuation and your ability to withstand missed milestones; the business with the most exciting technology is not automatically the best stock for your portfolio.
