That makes it appealing for homes with both hard floors and carpet, especially if you want less routine handling. It is not maintenance-free, however, and independent reviews describe trade-offs in carpet pickup and obstacle handling. Its large dock also needs a permanent spot with adequate clearance.
What is the Roborock S8 Pro Ultra?
Introduced as part of Roborock’s S8 Series in 2023, the S8 Pro Ultra is a robot vacuum and mop sold with the multifunction RockDock Ultra. The distinguishing feature is the dock, not simply the robot: compared with the family’s simpler models, it adds more of the recurring mop and dust-bin work to the charging station.

Roborock announced the S8 Series for US sale through Amazon and its official store beginning in April 2023, with series prices starting at $749.99. That was a launch starting price for the series, not the Pro Ultra’s price and not a current offer. Roborock’s CES 2023 announcement lists the Pro Ultra’s features.

What the RockDock Ultra handles
- Dust: The dock automatically empties the robot’s dustbin.
- Mop: It washes the mop and dries it with warm air.
- Water: It replenishes the robot’s water supply.
- Dock upkeep: Roborock says the dock can self-clean.
These functions reduce how often you need to intervene during routine cleaning, but they do not remove upkeep altogether.

What Roborock claims about cleaning
Roborock specifies up to 6,000 Pa suction for the S8 Series, a dual rubber roller brush, Reactive 3D obstacle avoidance, and a VibraRise 2.0 mop with two vibration modules. The company says the mop vibrates 3,000 times per minute and lifts automatically on carpet. It separately says the brush lifts up to 6 mm in mop-only mode and when the robot returns to the dock. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements of cleaning results.
How well does it clean?
Independent reviews point to capable mopping and navigation, but results are not uniformly strong across every task. Vacuum Wars reports strong mopping and navigation in its testing, while finding deep-carpet and crevice pickup average. Its obstacle-avoidance score was 9/12 under its own test framework, and it observed the robot sometimes wetting carpet edges while trying to clean adjacent surfaces. Those results describe that publication’s tests; they do not predict performance in every home.
RTINGS’ review was updated July 27, 2026, to Test Bench 1.1, which includes tests such as residual moisture, stain scrubbing, and stain smearing. RTINGS describes a 5 mm carpet-triggered mop lift and adjustable mop-washing frequency and intensity and drying duration. That 5 mm figure is a mop-lift description from RTINGS; it is distinct from Roborock’s stated maximum 6 mm brush lift.

Carpet and hard-floor homes
The combination of vacuuming, vibrating mopping, and automatic carpet response makes the S8 Pro Ultra a plausible fit for mixed floors. Still, do not treat carpet detection as a guarantee that every carpet edge will stay dry: Vacuum Wars reports occasional edge wetting in its tests, while its deep-carpet pickup was average. If thick-carpet or crevice cleaning is your main priority, the evidence here does not establish the Pro Ultra as a standout for those tasks.
Obstacle avoidance and privacy
Obstacle avoidance is not infallible, as the Vacuum Wars result illustrates. The same publication notes that this S8 model uses structured light and infrared rather than an onboard camera. That distinction may matter to buyers comparing camera-equipped robots, but it does not mean the robot will avoid every object reliably.
How much work does the dock really remove?
The dock automates frequent tasks, but the manual still describes user maintenance. According to the S8 Pro Ultra user manual, the robot decides during a cleaning session when to return for mop washing and water refilling. The app lets users change washing mode or duration and drying duration, and auto-emptying or auto-drying can be disabled.

Will the robot and dock fit?
The Pro Ultra needs room for both the robot and its substantial dock. Android Authority lists the robot at 353 × 350 × 96.5 mm and the RockDock Ultra at 514 × 450 × 426 mm. Tech Advisor reports the robot height as 9.65 cm and the dock as 42.6 × 51.3 × 45 cm; the small differences in dock measurements reflect the publications’ reported dimensions, so check the listing for your regional model before planning a tight installation.
Measure floor space as well as the height of any furniture the robot must pass under. The dock requires a permanent accessible location, and a cramped alcove can undermine the convenience of an all-in-one station.

The installation distance for the water refill and outlet pipes is recommended within 6 meters(19.7ft).

How does it differ from the S8 and S8+?
Android Authority describes the S8 family’s dock progression as charging-only for the basic S8, dust-emptying for the S8+, and the full multifunction dock for the S8 Pro Ultra. The Pro Ultra is the choice in this family when you want the dock to take on mop washing, drying, and water replenishment as well as dust emptying.

Android Authority’s May 4, 2023 hands-on review listed a US launch MSRP of $1,599.99 for the Pro Ultra. The review says Roborock supplied the unit and that it was tested for two weeks; its price is historical, not a current quote. Roborock’s separate $749.99 figure was the S8 Series starting price announced in 2023, not the Pro Ultra MSRP.

Because those figures describe launch context, confirm today’s price, stock, seller, and exact bundle before buying. Availability and pricing can differ by region and change over time.
Is the Roborock S8 Pro Ultra worth it?
It makes the most sense if you have a mix of hard floors and carpet, want the dock to handle much of the recurring dust and mop work, and can spare floor space for the station. The strongest reason to choose it over a simpler S8 model is the extra dock automation.
Consider a less automated model if you do not need the Pro Ultra’s mop-care functions or would rather avoid accommodating its large dock. Look elsewhere if exceptional deep-carpet or crevice pickup is the decisive requirement: the independent testing summarized here does not establish those as strengths. The value judgment ultimately depends on how much you prize reduced routine handling relative to the dock’s space needs and the robot’s remaining maintenance.
