YPulse’s 2026 findings point to growing interest in analog technology among young people, but they do not show that a majority of Gen Z use analog cameras. The widely reported “about two-thirds” figure covers a broad mix of products and habits—not cameras alone.
What does the “two-thirds” figure actually measure?
Digital Camera World reported that about two-thirds of Gen Z and younger Millennials use analog tech, attributing the finding to YPulse. The category includes old digital cameras, instant film and film cameras, but also vinyl records and flip phones. It is therefore a broad technology-use claim, not a camera-ownership statistic.

The article describes a survey of around 1,500 people aged 13–39 in the United States and Canada. The exact percentage, detailed question wording and camera-only breakdown are not available in the public YPulse summaries reviewed. The figure should be understood as a reported summary of analog-tech use, not proof that two-thirds own or use analog cameras. Digital Camera World’s coverage
What does YPulse’s 2026 research say about interest?
YPulse’s public overview of its 2026 Tech / Device Usage Report says its North America survey included 1,500 people aged 13–39 in the US and Canada and was fielded in March 2026. Nearly two-thirds said they wanted to go more analog that year. That is stated intent, not evidence of current ownership or use.

The public report page outlines its scope but does not provide detailed result tables. Neither overview supplies a camera-specific ownership percentage. YPulse report summaries
So, are film cameras popular with Gen Z?
The available figures support a broader conclusion: analog technology and the idea of going more analog have appeal among some young people. They do not establish how many Gen Z respondents use film cameras, instant cameras or any particular camera type. Nor do the summaries show that interest is uniform across ages, countries or product categories.

- 📷 Film-saving: You can have twice as many images per roll. For example, a film roll with 36 exposures can yield around 72 half-frame photos - doubled!
- 📷 Lightweight and Easy-to-use: The pocket-size camera is light and tiny, and hence convenient for you to bring along daily. Since its instructions are simple, it is suitable for all analog hobbyists.
- 📷 Built-in Flash: Turning on the flash by adjusting the silver ring around the lens so that you can use KODAK EKTAR H35 during days and nights, outdoor and indoor.
- 📷 Perfect for Beginners: The point-and-shoot camera is easy to use for new analogue hobbyists.
- 📷 Five colors: Off-white, black, brown, sage and sand. Neat and natural.
Film cameras, instant film and screen-free digital cameras are relevant examples for someone drawn to analog-style photography. Camp Snap and Flashback One35 V2 are examples of screen-free digital cameras, not products identified as survey-owned or endorsed. These devices create digital files; film and instant cameras use photographic media. Digital Camera World’s examples
What to consider if you want to try the look
The survey summaries do not compare camera products, but a few practical distinctions can help you choose what “analog” means for your own photography:

- Film camera: Produces photographs on film, so getting digital images generally involves having the film developed and scanned. Film and processing are ongoing considerations.
- Instant camera: Produces a physical print directly. The result is not simply a digital file, and you will need compatible instant film.
- Screen-free digital camera: Saves digital files without offering the same on-camera screen interactions as a typical digital camera. It avoids film and development, but image transfer still depends on the device’s workflow.
These are product-category differences, not findings about what survey respondents own. Check the specific camera’s media, transfer method and costs before buying.

“A majority of Gen Z uses analog cameras” goes beyond what the public evidence establishes. The reported majority-like figure refers to analog tech broadly and includes non-camera items; the separate figure about wanting to go more analog records interest rather than use. YPulse’s public summaries identify the survey populations and fieldwork dates, but do not expose the camera-specific data needed to answer how many young people use analog cameras.
