That is a demonstration on a hacked console—not the performance players should expect from an ordinary PS5. The report describes firmware modification and injected code to remove the game’s frame-rate limit; it does not establish a sustained average or a result independently reproduced by another tester.
What the 108.47 FPS report actually shows
GameGPU reported on October 4, 2026, that a modder using the alias callmemaj0r ran Red Dead Redemption 2 on a base PS5 modified with custom firmware and code injected through CheatRunner. The gameplay footage reportedly showed a counter reading 108.47 FPS. GameGPU’s report

That figure is a reading visible in the reported footage, not a verified average or a guarantee that the game held that rate. The available report does not establish how performance varied across locations or long sessions, the output resolution and image quality, frame pacing or stability, or whether another tester reproduced it.

Rockstar confirms that the PS4 version of Red Dead Redemption 2 is playable on PS5 through backward compatibility. Rockstar’s backward-compatibility announcement A technical overview updated August 6, 2026 describes the retail game as the PS4 Pro version, capped at 30 FPS, with no native PS5 version or official upgrade. Although the report’s headline says “overclocked,” its described method is software modification to remove an internal frame-rate limit. It does not document a hardware clock overclock. The result should therefore be understood as a reported modded-console demonstration, not an official performance mode or a console setting.
Can you get 100 FPS on a retail PS5?
The reported method is not a setting available on an unmodified retail PS5. Rockstar’s compatibility announcement establishes that the PS4 game can be played on PS5, but it does not promise higher frame rates. The reported 108.47 reading is not evidence that installing the game, changing a standard display option, or buying a particular edition will produce 100 FPS.

Playing the PS4 version on PS5
If you already own the PS4 game, Rockstar says it is playable on PS5 via backward compatibility. If buying a physical copy, note that the PS4 release uses two discs: start installation with the Data Disc, then insert the Play Disc to finish installation and launch the game. Rockstar’s 2020 announcement notes that compatible disc games can be used on PS5 consoles with a disc drive; the PS5 Digital Edition cannot use discs. Rockstar’s announcement A PS4 disc gives you the game for compatible backward-compatible play—it does not enable the reported modification or remove the retail frame-rate cap.
