To display your receiver’s menu, select the TV input connected to the receiver, then use the receiver remote’s model-specific menu control—often HOME, MENU, or SETUP. If the menu does not appear, check the receiver’s TV output connection and confirm that the exact model supports an on-screen display (OSD) over that connection.
How to display the receiver menu
- Turn on the TV and receiver.
- Select the receiver’s input on the TV. Press the TV remote’s Input or Source button and choose the HDMI input connected to the receiver.
- Open the menu with the receiver remote. Look for HOME, MENU, or SETUP. Which button works depends on the receiver model; consult its manual if the menu control is unclear.
For example, Sony’s STR-DN1080 guide says to select the TV input connected to the receiver and press HOME (Sony STR-DN1080 Help Guide). Yamaha’s RX-V567 manual directs users to press SETUP to view the Setup menu on the TV’s OSD (Yamaha RX-V567 Owner’s Manual). Those button instructions are model-specific, not interchangeable.

Why the receiver menu may not appear
The TV is on the wrong input
Verify that the TV is displaying the HDMI input connected to the receiver. Selecting another source on the TV can hide the receiver’s menu even when the receiver is on.

Check that the cable runs from the receiver’s TV-facing output to a TV input. The required jack varies by model. Sony specifies HDMI for the STR-DH830’s GUI and identifies HDMI TV OUT in its STR-DH750/STR-DH550 OSD guidance. Check your receiver’s manual for the correct output rather than assuming every HDMI port carries the menu (Sony STR-DH830 guidance; Sony STR-DH750/STR-DH550 OSD help).

The receiver may not support an on-screen menu over video
Not every receiver can send video or display its information on a TV. Sony explicitly warns that this capability is not present on all receivers. Confirm OSD support for your exact model in its manual before buying a cable or trying another model’s button sequence (Sony STR-DH830 guidance).
The model needs its GUI or output mode enabled
Some receivers have an additional setting that must be correct. On the Sony STR-DH830, Sony instructs users to press GUI Mode until “GUI ON” appears on the receiver’s display, then press HOME or MENU if needed. Sony says this receiver must be connected to the TV by HDMI for its GUI to be enabled. For the STR-DN1080, if the TV is connected to HDMI OUT B/HDMI ZONE, HDMI Out B Mode must be set to Main (Sony STR-DH830 guidance; Sony STR-DN1080 Help Guide).

The TV may take time to show the OSD
Sony notes that, depending on the TV, the OSD can take time to appear. If the picture is on the correct input, allow a moment after pressing the menu button before troubleshooting further (Sony STR-DH750/STR-DH550 OSD help).

If your receiver supports an on-screen menu but lacks the required connection, first check the receiver manual for the specified TV output and confirm that the TV has a matching input. The cited Sony instructions support an HDMI connection for the models discussed; they do not establish a particular cable brand, length, or specification.
