There is no single safe temperature for an RC jet. Exhaust-gas temperature (EGT), the turbine casing, a starter or other motor, and the ECU battery are different things, measured in different places and governed by different limits. Use the manual for the exact turbine and ECU, and the battery maker’s instructions for the pack; never treat a turbine’s EGT limit as a battery or motor limit.
Which temperature are you measuring?
- EGT: Exhaust-gas temperature reported by the turbine’s sensors and ECU. It is not the temperature of the outer casing.
- Turbine casing: Surface temperature depends on where and how it is measured. The EGT limit does not define a safe casing temperature.
- Starter or other motor: Its allowable temperature is specific to that motor and installation; the EGT limit does not apply.
- ECU battery: Pack operating and charging temperature limits come from the battery manufacturer. An engine’s battery voltage or cell-count recommendation does not establish a temperature limit.
For any measurement, check the manufacturer’s specified sensor or measurement location and limit. The available manufacturer information does not establish one general temperature limit for every turbine casing, motor, or battery.

What EGT limits do manufacturers specify?
These examples show why limits must be tied to the named turbine. They are not interchangeable or universal standards.

The P250-PRO figures apply to that model and its cited technical document; the E170 listing gives a different model’s stated range. Follow the current documentation for your own turbine rather than borrowing either figure.

How do you choose and handle the ECU battery?
Battery compatibility and battery temperature are separate questions. Match the pack to the ECU’s compatibility chart and the engine’s requirements. Compare chemistry, cell count and voltage, capacity, connector, and the current or starting requirements. Then check the pack maker’s operating and charging temperature ranges.
Configurations differ even within one manufacturer’s systems. JetCat’s P250-PRO technical information describes battery chemistry as selectable and identifies 3–4S LiPo or LiFePO4 as ideal for that model. A separate JetCat BMS V1.0 manual, approximately 2016, describes a 3-cell 9.9V LiFePO4 battery and an alternative 2-cell LiPo: JetCat manuals and downloads. These examples are not a general recommendation; verify the exact ECU chart and manual before buying or connecting a replacement.

Charging precautions
- Use a compatible charger and the charge parameters specified by the charger and battery makers.
- Do not exceed the pack’s allowed charging current, and do not leave charging unattended.
- JetCat warns that incorrect charging parameters can cause a LiPo or LiFePO4 battery to explode. Treat the warning seriously and follow the battery and charger instructions.
How should you cool down and shut down?
Some turbine ECUs keep running through a prescribed cooling sequence and power down automatically when it is complete. JetCat describes this behavior for the P80-SE: JetCat P80-SE product information. JetCat’s BMS instructions also say not to disconnect the battery after startup or while the engine is running.

- Follow that system’s prescribed shutdown sequence. Keep its required power supply connected while the engine is running and throughout any ECU-directed cooldown.
- Wait for the indicated completion or automatic power-down; do not interrupt the sequence by disconnecting the battery.
Shutdown behavior varies by system, so do not assume another model follows the P80-SE sequence. If the ECU reports a temperature fault or a reading appears abnormal, stop and use the manufacturer’s troubleshooting instructions instead of changing operating limits or improvising a cooldown.
