Razer’s Wolverine V3 Pro is an Xbox-licensed wireless controller for Xbox and PC, announced at a $199.99 USD launch MSRP in 2024. The key detail behind its 1000Hz headline is that Razer specifies 1000Hz only for wired PC play in Tournament Mode; wireless and Xbox polling are specified at 250Hz. It also has Hall Effect thumbsticks and several remappable controls.

What the Wolverine V3 Pro’s polling-rate claims mean

Polling rate describes how often a controller reports its inputs to the connected device. Razer’s specifications distinguish among connection type and mode: 250Hz for wireless use and Xbox, and 1000Hz for wired PC use with Tournament Mode enabled. The 1000Hz figure therefore does not describe wireless play or Xbox use.

These are manufacturer specifications, not independently measured latency results. Razer’s product page lists the conditions in its Wolverine V3 Pro specifications and FAQ.

Sticks, triggers and remappable controls

Razer says the V3 Pro uses Hall Effect thumbsticks, which sense stick movement magnetically. That describes the sensing technology; it is not a guarantee that the sticks can never develop a problem.

Razer announced the controller on August 28, 2024, describing it as a wireless esports controller licensed for Xbox. The announcement’s promotional endorsement from Halo player Eric “Snip3down” Wrona is an attributed opinion, not independent evidence of a competitive advantage. Razer’s August 28, 2024 announcement also quotes Razer executive Nick Bourne describing the company’s performance goals.

Wireless, PC compatibility and what comes in the box

The controller connects wirelessly over 2.4GHz using the included USB-A dongle. Razer also lists wired play and charging through an included 10-foot cable. Its stated compatibility includes Xbox and PC; the 1000Hz Tournament Mode specification applies to wired PC use.

Is the Wolverine V3 Pro the right fit?

  • Consider it if you want a wireless Xbox/PC controller with extra rear and bumper controls, Hall Effect sticks, and a carrying case with interchangeable caps.
  • Compare the Tournament Edition if you do not need wireless use and want to consider Razer’s wired model, which launched at a lower MSRP.
  • Check the connection-specific rate if 1000Hz is central to your decision: Razer specifies it for wired PC Tournament Mode, not wireless play or Xbox.

Razer’s specifications establish the stated features and modes, but do not provide independent measurements of latency, durability, or long-term stick reliability. The $199.99 figure is the launch MSRP announced in 2024, not a verified current price.
