That is an estimate, not a fixed bill: Indian retailer listings vary, and the cited listings do not establish a stable, fully itemized total. Electricity, broadband, backup power, and any capture equipment are additional costs.
How much does a Raspberry Pi 24/7 YouTube stream cost in India?
For a Pi 5 build, plan roughly ₹7,000–₹10,000 upfront for the board and the essentials needed to run it. This derived range reflects retailer listing snapshots: Robu.in displayed a Pi 5 4GB board at ₹5,799, while a 4GB starter-kit listing showed ₹8,497. These are not guaranteed checkout prices, and the listings differed in what was bundled. Check the seller’s current price and kit contents before ordering.

| Cost item | Available listing or estimate | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Raspberry Pi 5, 4GB | ₹5,799 displayed by Robu.in in a listing accessed in 2026 | Price may change; confirm the board and included accessories. |
| Official 27W USB-C power supply | ₹1,094 displayed by Robu.in in a listing accessed in 2026 | Confirm compatibility and whether your kit already includes a suitable supply. |
| Active cooler | ₹465 displayed by Robu.in in a listing accessed in 2026 | Confirm whether your case and workload require this accessory. |
| Case | ₹819 displayed by Robu.in in a listing accessed in 2026 | Check whether cooling is included or separately required. |
| Pi 5 4GB starter kit | ₹8,497 displayed by Robu.in in a listing accessed in 2026 | Inspect its exact contents; a kit may not include every item needed for your build. |
| Boot storage | A separate current price was not established. | Allow for a compatible microSD card or other boot storage if it is not in the kit. |
The planning range is for a basic computer setup, not a complete studio. It does not include a camera, microphone, monitor, router, UPS, broadband subscription, or paid streaming software. A kit can reduce the number of separate purchases, but only if its included power supply, storage, and cooling suit your intended use.
What does continuous operation cost each month?
Electricity
Do not turn the Pi’s board-current specification into a claimed monthly electricity bill. Raspberry Pi documentation lists 800mA typical active current consumption for the bare Pi 5 board; that is not wall power for a streaming setup. Actual power draw depends on workload and attached peripherals. Measure the complete setup at the wall while it is streaming, then calculate:

- Includes 128GB Micro SD Card pre-loaded with 64-bit Raspberry Pi OS, USB MicroSD Card Reader
- CanaKit Turbine Black Case for the Raspberry Pi 5
- CanaKit Low Noise Bearing System Fan
- Mega Heat Sink - Black Anodized
Monthly electricity cost = measured watts ÷ 1,000 × 24 × 30 × your electricity price per kWh.
For illustration only, a measured 5W load at ₹8/kWh would use 3.6 kWh over 30 days and cost ₹28.80. Both inputs are hypothetical examples, not a measured Pi streaming result or a national Indian tariff. Your meter reading and local bill rate determine the actual figure.

Internet and backup power
Broadband is a recurring cost if you need a new or upgraded plan, but no plan price or single India-wide rate is established here. Check your provider’s upload allowance and reliability for your location; a stream that runs continuously must send data continuously. A UPS or other backup supply adds upfront cost and may need replacement over time. Include it if outages are common where you live or if uninterrupted operation matters.

What parts and power supply does the Pi need?
A practical Pi 5 build needs the board, a compatible USB-C supply, boot storage, and a case or cooling arrangement suited to sustained use. Raspberry Pi recommends a 27W USB-C supply for Pi 5, with a 5V, 5A capability. Its documentation says using a 3A supply limits power available to USB peripherals to 600mA. That matters if your setup adds USB capture devices or other accessories.

What settings does YouTube Live require?
YouTube’s encoder guidance supports RTMP or RTMPS and H.264, H.265, or AV1. YouTube recommends constant bitrate (CBR) and a two-second keyframe interval; the interval should not exceed four seconds. Match the encoder’s output to the resolution and frame rate you actually intend to stream rather than treating one bitrate as universal.
As one specific reference point, YouTube Help’s guidance for 720p at 30 fps lists a bitrate range of 2–6 Mbps and recommends 3 Mbps. Use YouTube’s current resolution-and-frame-rate table for other modes: the appropriate target changes with the output settings. Your available upload capacity must sustain the chosen stream, with headroom for network variation and other household traffic.

How to set up the Pi for a continuous stream
- Assemble and boot the Pi. Fit the selected storage, case, and cooling; connect the compatible power supply and network. Confirm the board boots reliably before configuring the stream.
- Install and configure an encoder. Choose software compatible with your Pi workload and capture source. Set a YouTube-supported resolution and frame rate, H.264, CBR, a two-second keyframe interval, and a bitrate appropriate to that output. Prefer RTMPS when supported.
- Create or select a broadcast in YouTube Live Control Room. Copy the YouTube server URL and stream key into the encoder’s streaming settings. Treat the stream key like a password: do not publish it or share it with anyone who should not be able to send video to your channel.
- Start with a short private or unlisted test. Check the incoming preview and YouTube’s stream health before scheduling or relying on a public broadcast. Confirm audio, image, bitrate, and frame rate.
- Run a sustained test using the real scene and settings. Watch temperature, dropped frames, upload stability, restart behavior, and whether the encoder reconnects as expected. A brief successful test does not establish unattended 24/7 reliability.
- Plan how you will recover it. Decide how you will detect a stopped stream, restore the encoder or network, and rotate or re-enter the stream key if it is compromised. Official Pi power specifications and YouTube encoder guidance do not guarantee continuous uptime for a particular Pi and software setup.
Copyright and channel-policy checks before looping video
Technical ability to send a loop does not grant rights to its contents or guarantee that a channel will qualify for monetization. Use video, music, and other material you own or have permission to broadcast. Review YouTube’s current copyright and channel monetization policies, particularly before repeatedly streaming third-party or minimally changed material. A stream that is technically online can still receive a copyright claim or face policy consequences.

A Pi keeps the encoder under your control and leaves you with hardware that may be reused for other tasks. In return, you own the upfront equipment cost, electricity, local network dependence, cooling, and recovery work. The real suitability depends on the resolution and frame rate, scene complexity, peripherals, and whether the Pi can sustain the workload. No cited source establishes tested 24/7 performance for a particular configuration, so validate your own build over an extended run before depending on it.
Best Value
- Includes Raspberry Pi 5 16GB with 2.4Ghz 64-bit quad-core CPU (16GB RAM)

- CanaKit Turbine Black Case for the Raspberry Pi 5
- CanaKit Low Noise Bearing System Fan
- Mega Heat Sink - Black Anodized
When comparing a local build with a hosted service, weigh the upfront hardware and accessories against recurring service charges; electricity and broadband; supported workload and output quality; recovery effort when unattended; and whether you can reuse the hardware. A hosted service shifts the streaming workload away from your home computer but adds a recurring provider cost and still depends on the network and service.
Common problems and what to check
- Stream fails to connect: recheck the server URL and stream key in the encoder, confirm the broadcast is ready in YouTube Live Control Room, and verify that the network can reach the service. If you exposed the key publicly, replace it in YouTube and update the encoder.
- Dropped frames or unstable stream health: check actual upload stability and competing network use, then lower bitrate or output settings in line with YouTube’s guidance. Try wired Ethernet where possible.
- Peripherals disconnect or behave erratically: check that the supply is appropriate for Pi 5 and its attached devices; Raspberry Pi documents a USB peripheral power limit when using a 3A supply.
- Long-run instability or heat concerns: inspect the case and cooling arrangement, monitor temperatures and encoder behavior during a sustained test, and avoid assuming a short test predicts continuous operation.
- Stream does not return after an outage or restart: test the actual restart and reconnection path, including network recovery and encoder launch. Build a recovery procedure around observed behavior rather than assuming unattended recovery.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the goal is a continuous YouTube stream from uploaded videos, StreamNeo is the #1 option to consider: it runs from the cloud, supports the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and offers the first day free. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Your computer can be off; StreamNeo loops the video and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. It is for YouTube streams from uploaded videos, not live camera input.
There is no need to keep a Pi, laptop, or home connection running for the encoder. Every slot includes 10 GB storage pooled across active slots, playlists, and support; StreamNeo says the uploaded video streams as made, without re-encoding or quality tiers. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo for service details, then start the free day.
