To add music to a screen recording you already made, open it in a video editor, import a music track, place it on the timeline, then trim and adjust it while previewing the result. The exact steps depend on your device and editor. If you are still recording, audio-capture settings are a separate matter from adding music afterward.
Add music on iPhone or iPad with iMovie

Open your project in iMovie and move to the timeline.

Tap Add Media, then Audio, then My Music to browse tracks downloaded to the Music app or synced to the device. Preview a track and add it; iMovie places it at the start and fits it to the project length.

To use an audio file stored on your device, tap Add Media, then Files, browse to the file, and select it. Apple lists M4A, MP4, MP3, WAV, and AIFF as examples of supported file types.

If the file is shorter than one minute, position the playhead where you want it before adding the file. Move or trim the audio on the timeline as needed, then play the project to check the result.
Some protected music-library files may not appear in iMovie. For Apple’s device-specific instructions, see Add songs and other audio files to your iMovie project.
Add music on a Mac with iMovie

Open the project and choose Audio, then Music in the media browser to find music-library tracks.

Drag the track into the timeline. For background music, place it in the music well; to attach a song or sound effect to a particular video clip, place it beneath that clip.

You can also drag an audio file from Finder into the timeline. Position and trim it, then preview the project.

Add music in Clipchamp on desktop

Import an audio file by dragging it into My media or choosing Import media. You can also select stock music from Clipchamp’s Content library.

Add the audio to the timeline. Move it to set when it starts, then split or trim it to fit the recording.

Preview the video and audio together. If an audio file will not import, check whether its format is supported.
Cloud import choices differ between personal and work accounts, so do not assume every source is available on every account. See Microsoft’s Clipchamp audio instructions.
Add music in Premiere on mobile

In Premiere mobile, choose Files and Audio. Depending on the flow shown in the app, you may instead choose Music and audio, then Files.

Browse your phone storage and select an audio file. The imported track appears on the timeline.

Trim the track, adjust its volume, or combine it with other sounds. Preview the edit before exporting.

Place the music on its own timeline layer, start it where it suits the recording, and trim it to the section you want. Listen to the full edit, especially where speech, alerts, or other important screen-recording audio occurs. Adjust the music by ear so those sounds remain intelligible; there is no universal volume setting that fits every recording.
If the song is missing from an editor’s picker, check that it is downloaded locally and accessible to the app. If a local file fails to import, check the editor’s supported formats. Apple lists M4A, MP4, MP3, WAV, and AIFF as examples for iMovie; Microsoft advises checking supported formats for Clipchamp.

Recording audio is different from adding music afterward
Android screen recording includes a choice about whether to record audio before capture starts. That setting concerns audio captured during the screen recording; it does not add a music track to a recording that already exists. To add a separate song afterward, use an editor and timeline workflow like the ones above. Android’s guidance does not establish that every device or app can capture all internal app audio. Check music rights before publishing
Being able to access a track does not mean you have permission to publish it in a video. Apple says that using a song purchased from the iTunes Store in a project requires you to be the copyright holder or have express permission from the copyright holder; protected music-library files may also be unavailable in iMovie. Check the music’s license and the rules of the platform where you plan to post.
YouTube Help warns that copyright-protected content used in Shorts created outside YouTube’s creation tools may receive a Content ID claim or be removed after a copyright removal request. This is a platform warning, not a blanket legal conclusion about every track or use. See YouTube Help on enhancing Shorts.
