What kind of class is Assassin in Ragnarok X?
Assassin is a close-range damage class in the Thief lineage. Class guides describe progression through Assassin, Assassin Cross, and Shadow Cross, while the official announcement of the third-class system identifies Guillotine Cross as an assassin and poison specialist. Those names do not line up perfectly across the available descriptions, so check the job names and progression displayed in your current client and region rather than assuming every server uses identical labels. Should you choose Katar or dagger?
These are useful build directions, not a proven ranking. The available class guidance does not establish that either weapon is best for farming, bosses, or PvP across current servers and patches. Make the choice based on the combat style you want and the bonuses and skills shown in your own client.
Katar: critical-focused direction
The class guide associates Katar play with critical-oriented attacks and identifies Katar Mastery as a relevant passive. Inspect the current Katar bonuses and passive description before investing: the guide does not provide current comparative damage tests or a point-by-point build.

Dagger: rapid-strike direction
Dagger builds are associated with Double Attack and faster strikes. Consider this route if you prefer repeated attacks or the dagger-related skills available to your character. Its efficiency still depends on current skill behavior, gear, and your target; older community advice should not be treated as a current balance result. Which stats should you raise?
Think of stats as tradeoffs rather than fixed targets. The available guides offer qualitative roles but no defensible current numerical thresholds for a Ragnarok X Assassin.

- LUK: is relevant to a critical-focused direction.

For a critical-oriented Katar approach, assess how LUK interacts with your current weapon and equipment; for a faster-strike dagger approach, assess the value of AGI and the dagger skills available to you. These are starting considerations, not prescribed allocations. Check the character sheet and skill interface after each investment, and adjust if your attacks miss or your chosen damage pattern is not working as intended. Do not import exact stat numbers from another Ragnarok title or an older build.

Which Assassin skills should you inspect first?
The following skills are useful entry points for understanding the class, but they are not a verified current priority order. A notice dated February 4, 2026, reports Assassin adjustments and broader changes that consolidate primary-stat scaling: most skills lose primary-stat scaling, with such bonuses moved into one or two dedicated passive skills. The notice does not give a complete Assassin-specific before-and-after table. Consequently, verify each skill’s current effect, prerequisites, point cost, and uptime in your own server’s client before committing points. - Sonic Blow: inspect it as a single-target burst option.
- Meteor Assault: inspect it for area damage.
- Enchant Deadly Poison: check its current offensive effect and duration.
- Cloaking: assess its use for approaching or repositioning.
- Katar Mastery: check its current bonuses if you choose Katar.
- Double Attack: check its current behavior if you choose dagger.

How should you approach PvE and PvP?
PvE
As a general starting pattern, use area damage when facing groups and reserve burst skills for a priority target. Cloaking may help with approach or repositioning, depending on its current in-game behavior. These are qualitative suggestions, not evidence that Assassin currently outperforms other classes in farming or boss encounters.

General class guidance suggests using stealth to engage, selecting fragile or high-impact opponents, and disengaging when the fight turns unfavorable. Treat this as a tactical framework rather than a claim about current arena strength; no comparative test data establishes a present-day PvP ranking.
