The GeForce RTX 5070 is modestly faster on average in the cited rasterized gaming comparisons and has a clearer lead in ray tracing, but the Radeon RX 9070 GRE can outperform it in specific games. Choose based on the games and settings you use, each card’s live local price, and whether the exact model fits your power supply and case—not on a small average lead alone.
Which GPU is faster for 1440p and 4K gaming?
Two June 2026 comparisons favor the RTX 5070 in rasterized averages, though their results come from separate test suites and should not be combined as if they were one controlled test.

- The FPS Review tested 14 games at 1440p and reported the RTX 5070 ahead by 5% in its native-rasterization average and 6% in its upscaled average. Its tested cards were an XFX Swift RX 9070 GRE at reference game and boost clocks and an NVIDIA RTX 5070 Founders Edition. The FPS Review’s comparison also includes ray-traced modes.
- TechSpot’s 15-game rasterized suite puts the GRE about 5% behind the RTX 5070 at 1440p and 6% behind at 4K. These are that outlet’s averages, not a promise of the same gap in every game or on every PC. TechSpot’s review provides its test results.
For a 1440p buyer, the evidence points to a modest average RTX 5070 advantage, not a universal win. The cited 4K average also favors the RTX 5070, but the available FPS Review comparison is a 1440p suite; do not treat its 1440p results as a direct 4K comparison.
How much do results vary by game?
Averages can hide substantial differences between titles. In TechSpot’s 1440p results, the GRE was about 12% faster in Cities: Skylines II and 14% faster in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. In the same review, it was about 15% slower in Delta Force and 19% slower in Space Marine 2.

- Axial-tech fans now feature a smaller fan hub that facilitates longer blades and a barrier ring that increases downward air pressure
- Phase-change GPU thermal pad helps ensure optimal heat transfer, lowering GPU temperatures for enhanced performance and reliability
- 2.5-slot design allows for greater build compatibility while maintaining cooling performance
Those percentages describe TechSpot’s tests, not every setup. If you mainly play one or two demanding games, look for results in those exact games, at your intended resolution and graphics settings. A card that wins the overall average may still be the slower choice for your own library.
Which card is better for ray tracing?
The RTX 5070 has the stronger result in TechSpot’s seven-game ray-tracing average: it led the GRE by 10% at 1440p and 14% at 4K in that test suite. Individual game results can differ, so treat those as suite averages rather than fixed performance gains. The FPS Review also tested ray-traced modes, but its results use a different set of games and test conditions.

- Memory Size: 12 GB
- Memory Interface: 192-bit GDDR6
- Output: 2 x HDMI, 2 x DisplayPort
If ray tracing is a priority, the cited aggregate evidence favors the RTX 5070. If you rarely enable it, rasterized performance in the games you actually play and the cards’ prices may matter more.

| Memory type | GDDR6 | GDDR7 |

| Power connectors listed | Two standard 8-pin PCIe connectors | One 16-pin 12VHPWR connector |
These are the specifications cited for the compared cards; board-partner models can differ. Check the specific card’s connector requirements, dimensions, and power recommendations against your PSU and case before buying. Both cards’ 12GB capacity is the same on paper, while the listed memory technology and bandwidth are not; bandwidth figures alone do not establish how a card will perform in a particular game.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is the RTX 5070 worth paying more for?
That depends on the size of the price gap and how much you value the RTX 5070’s measured average lead—especially if ray tracing is important to you. A small performance advantage can lose its value case if the 5070 costs substantially more, while the GRE may be the better buy if it is cheaper and performs well in your key games.

- Chipset: AMD RX 9070 GRE
- Memory: 12GB GDDR6
- XFX Sift Triple Fan Cooling Solution
- Boost Clock: Up to 2790 MHz
Both cards had a reported US launch MSRP of $549. In a June 2026 market snapshot, The FPS Review found the GRE at $549 and RTX 5070 listings starting at $609, with most around $630 or higher. Those are historical US listing observations, not current prices or a statement about availability elsewhere. Compare live prices in your region before deciding.
For a quick value check, compare the current price of the exact models you can buy with performance results for your own games. Do not assume the June 2026 price gap still applies.
What should you choose?
- Choose the RTX 5070 if its current price is acceptable and you prioritize the stronger cited rasterized averages or ray-tracing results.
- Choose the RX 9070 GRE if it costs less where you shop, your main games favor it, or its listed power connectors suit your system better.
- Compare individual reviews before purchasing if a particular game, resolution, or graphics mode dominates your decision; aggregate results can conceal a reversal in that title.
- Check the exact card model for dimensions, connectors, and power requirements rather than relying only on the GPU name.
Neither card is the right choice at every price or for every game. The cited evidence gives the RTX 5070 an overall edge, but the practical winner is the model that best matches your game list, system, and live local price.
