On macOS Ventura 13 or later, open Apple menu > System Settings > General > Storage to see your Mac’s storage categories and available space. Apple does not show a separate Apple Intelligence total there, so this screen cannot tell you exactly how many gigabytes its on-device models currently use.
Where to check storage on your Mac
- Open the Apple menu and choose System Settings.
- Select General in the sidebar, then click Storage.
- Review the category chart and available capacity. Apple says this information updates automatically as storage changes. See Apple’s instructions for freeing up storage space on Mac.
On macOS versions older than Ventura 13, Apple directs users to Apple menu > About This Mac > Storage.

What the Storage screen can—and cannot—tell you
The panel reports overall Mac storage, not an Apple Intelligence-specific total. Apple’s storage guidance does not document a separate line item for Apple Intelligence, so the category chart and free-space figure do not establish the exact current size of its downloaded models. Apple’s storage instructions explain how to view categories, but do not provide a live model-footprint readout.

Do not treat System Data as the Apple Intelligence total. Apple describes System Data as a variable catch-all that can include logs, caches, virtual memory files, runtime resources, temporary files, fonts, app support files, and plug-ins. macOS manages these contents, and the category can change with the Mac’s state. Apple also says System Data cannot be selected and deleted from the Storage settings category. See Apple’s explanation of Mac storage categories.

Apple’s published storage requirements are not a live measurement
Apple’s current support guidance lists 7 GB of device storage as a requirement for Apple Intelligence on supported devices running macOS Sequoia 15.1 or later. That is a published system requirement, not a measurement of the model files currently on your Mac. Apple does not say that every Mac uses exactly 7 GB.
Apple’s separate next-generation guidance gives different figures for macOS 27: up to 8 GB for other supported devices and up to 14 GB for specified newer Macs with an M3-or-later chip and at least 12 GB of unified memory. These figures apply to the generation and hardware described on Apple’s next-generation Apple Intelligence requirements page; they should not be treated as a universal, current per-Mac usage figure. Apple’s general Apple Intelligence compatibility guidance likewise does not provide a live per-model storage readout.

How to remove Apple Intelligence’s on-device models
If your aim is to remove the downloaded models rather than measure them, Apple says turning Apple Intelligence off removes its on-device models. On Mac, open System Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri and turn Apple Intelligence off. This disables Apple Intelligence features while it is off; the setting does not report how much storage the models occupied.
