Each guess is entered once and checked against all four boards, but each board gives its own color clues. The key is to read every grid separately: a letter can be green on one board and gray on another.
How a Quordle turn works
- Enter a valid five-letter word.
- Submit it. That single guess appears on all four grids and uses one turn from the shared allowance.
- Read the colors on each board separately, then use the combined clues to choose your next guess.
The basic rules described by Quordle.me and Quordle.game give players nine total guesses to solve all four words—not nine guesses per grid. You win by finding every answer within that shared budget.

What the colors mean
| Color | Meaning on that grid |
|---|---|
| Green | The letter is in the answer and in the correct position. |
| Yellow | The letter is in the answer, but in a different position. |
| Gray | The letter is not in that answer. |
These clues belong to individual grids, not to the guess as a whole. For example, in an illustrative puzzle, a guessed letter could be green on one board and gray on another because the four answers are different.

How to use the four grids together
Every turn gives you up to four sets of clues from the same word. A useful way to think about the game is that you are maintaining four separate answer patterns while spending from one shared supply of guesses.

- Track which positions are confirmed by green letters on each board.
- For yellow letters, keep the letter in that board’s answer but try it in a different position.
- Use gray feedback only for the board that returned it; do not assume the letter is absent from all four answers.
- Before submitting, check whether the word can advance more than one board without contradicting a board’s known clues.
Entering and editing a guess
The Quordle.game rules guide describes pressing Enter to submit a completed guess and Backspace to edit it. Its guide also describes an on-screen keyboard with indicators for the four boards, so the keyboard can show that a letter has different statuses in different grids.
How Quordle differs from Wordle
The basic comparison is one five-letter answer in six attempts for Wordle versus four answers in nine shared attempts for Quordle. The defining difference is not simply the higher number of answers: one submitted word generates separate feedback across multiple boards, so every turn has to serve a set of independent patterns.

Do all Quordle modes use nine guesses?
No single attempt allowance should be assumed for every mode. A secondary report describes Classic, Extreme, and Chill options and a weekly challenge, with different reported budgets; those mode details can change and are not established by the basic rules guides. Check the live game’s mode selector before relying on a variant’s current rules. The nine-guess figure applies to the basic format described in the cited rules pages.
