In Classic, you solve four five-letter words with nine shared guesses. The official Quordle game also lists Extreme, Chill, Sequence, and Rescue modes, though the available mode descriptions do not explain every mode’s mechanics.
How does Quordle work?
Quordle presents four five-letter puzzles at once. Each guess is applied across the unsolved boards, but the feedback belongs to each board individually. Track clues separately: a letter’s color on one board does not establish what that letter means on another.

- Green: the letter is in the word and in the correct position.
- Yellow: the letter is in the word but in a different position.
- Gray: the letter is absent from that board’s answer.
In Classic, players have nine guesses shared across the four boards, rather than nine attempts for each word. The official Quordle game result describes Classic as “9 guesses to solve 4 words.” Quordle
Does “unlimited practice” mean unlimited guesses?
No. On independent practice pages, “unlimited” refers to being able to play additional rounds. A round still has a fixed guess limit. For example, Quordle.uk describes its own Unlimited game as allowing a new round after the current one ends, while retaining four boards and nine shared guesses per round. It also says it is not the official Merriam-Webster practice mode. Quordle.uk
#1 Best Overall
A separate Quardle.org page describes a Practice Mode with endless random boards. That is a claim about that site, not evidence that Merriam-Webster’s official game offers the same practice feature. Quardle.org
What are the Quordle modes and how difficult are they?
The current official game result names five modes. Three have stated differences in guess count or answer-word familiarity; the result does not provide enough detail to compare Sequence or Rescue mechanics. Quordle

| Chill | Twelve guesses; answers are described as fewer unusual words. |
| Sequence | The mode is listed, but its mechanics are not stated in the available description. |
| Rescue | The mode is listed, but its mechanics are not stated in the available description. |
How does the daily puzzle work?
The official game page displays a dated daily puzzle. The available page result does not establish its reset time or timezone, whether every player receives identical answers, or what archive rules apply. Check the game page itself for the puzzle currently available: Quordle.
What is a useful approach to shared guesses?
Choose guesses that are likely to reveal useful letters across multiple boards, then use each board’s own feedback to narrow its answer. Keep separate clue histories for the four grids; a letter can be green, yellow, or gray differently on different boards.
Rank #3
There is no established universally best opening word in the cited rules and mode descriptions. A starter recommendation on an independent game page is that page’s advice, not proof of an optimal strategy. Quardle.org
