1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsBoth PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S are officially listed for Grand Theft Auto VI. If GTA VI is your deciding factor, Rockstar’s official page gives PS5 a clear marketing nod: it labels the game “Plays Best On” PlayStation 5. But that is not a published head-to-head test, so it does not prove PS5 will deliver higher frame rates, resolution, or better image quality than Xbox. For most people who already own one of these console families, the available evidence is not a reason to buy the other just for GTA VI.
Is GTA 6 coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X?
Yes. Rockstar lists PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S as platforms for GTA VI on its official game page. Rockstar currently gives the release date as November 19, 2026. The game is not listed for PS4 on PlayStation’s US product page.

That means buyers choosing between the current PlayStation and Xbox console families can plan around official support for both. The sources do not establish support for other platforms or a later release schedule.

Rockstar’s page uses the label “Plays Best On PlayStation 5.” PlayStation’s Mary Yee, Senior Vice President of Marketing at Sony Interactive Entertainment, likewise said GTA VI would “play best on PS5” by taking advantage of PS5’s immersive features. These are official platform-positioning statements, not independently published comparative testing.
#1 Best Overall
- Model Number CFI-2000
- Includes DualSense Wireless Controller, 1TB SSD, 2 Horizontal Stand Feet, HDMI Cable, AC power cord, USB cable, printed materials, ASTRO’s PLAYROOM (Pre-installed game)
- Vertical Stand sold seperately
The cited official materials do not provide a PS5-versus-Xbox benchmark for frame rate, resolution, loading, or image quality. So it is fair to say Rockstar officially highlights PS5; it is not supported to promise that the game runs faster or looks better there than on Xbox Series X.
What PS5-specific features has PlayStation described?
PlayStation says the PS5 version will use DualSense controller haptics and adaptive triggers, effects through the controller speaker, Tempest 3D AudioTech, and the PS5 SSD. Those features may matter if you value tactile feedback, controller audio, spatial audio, and the platform’s storage-related experience. The descriptions are about PS5 features; they do not establish that Xbox lacks comparable capabilities in general or that the PS5 version wins on overall performance.

You do not need to buy an extra DualSense controller to play the game. Consider the controller features as part of your preference between platforms, not as a required add-on.

| Choose based on | What to consider |
|---|---|
| Already own a console | If you have a PS5 or an Xbox Series X|S, the official platform listings give no compelling GTA VI-only reason to switch families. |
| PS5 immersive features | PS5 is the platform Rockstar labels “Plays Best On,” and PlayStation describes DualSense, audio, and SSD features. This is a reasonable reason to lean PS5 if those features matter to you, but not evidence of a performance lead. |
| Library, friends, and services | Consider where your existing games, friends, and subscriptions are. These are personal value factors; the cited sources do not quantify an advantage for either console. |
| Local hardware price and stock | Check current prices, bundles, and availability where you live. The cited sources do not establish current PS5 or Xbox console prices or inventory. |
| Controller preference | Think about which controller you prefer for long play sessions and whether PS5’s described haptics and adaptive triggers appeal to you. |
What does GTA 6 cost, and does the physical version include a disc?
Take-Two and Rockstar’s June 24, 2026 announcement lists US game prices of $79.99 for the Standard Edition and $99.99 for the Ultimate Edition. PlayStation’s US product page displays the same prices, which may change; neither figure is worldwide pricing. Check the retailer listing and local currency before buying.

Rockstar Support says the physical package contains a download code, not a game disc. The announcement says the code-in-box version is expected to be available from November 12, 2026, alongside the start of digital preloading. If you want a disc for resale, lending, or offline installation, this package does not meet that expectation.
Check region compatibility before buying a code
Rockstar Support says PlayStation code redemptions are region-specific and recommends purchasing from a retailer in the country associated with the platform account to avoid activation problems. The same support page says Xbox codes are not region-locked. Confirm the specific listing and territory before purchasing, especially when buying a PlayStation code across borders.
