Rockstar’s GTA VI product page uses the phrase “Plays Best On” for PS5. Rockstar also said its August 27, 2026 extended look was captured entirely from in-game footage on PS5. These are official platform and footage statements, not a measured comparison. They do not establish that Xbox performs worse.
What is known about GTA 6 performance?
As of the official materials reviewed, Rockstar has not published GTA VI’s target or minimum frame rate, resolution targets, graphics-mode menu, or a PS5-versus-Xbox benchmark. There is also no official basis here to claim a particular combination such as 4K and 60 fps, or to predict different settings for Xbox Series X and Series S.

Wait for Rockstar’s specifications or console-store listings rather than treating GTA V settings, rumors or hardware-based estimates as GTA VI requirements. The PS5 label and captured footage identify Rockstar’s stated platform context; neither supplies technical performance numbers.
How much storage does GTA 6 need?
Rockstar has not stated an installation-size or required-storage figure in the official materials reviewed. That means there is no confirmed gigabyte number to use for planning, and the eventual download size should not be guessed from another game.
Check Rockstar Support and the PlayStation or Xbox store listing nearer launch for an updated requirement. Rockstar’s support page, last updated August 18, 2026, also explains platform availability and purchase formats: Grand Theft Auto VI Platforms, Editions, and Versions.
Preload and physical-copy details
Rockstar says digital preorder preload is scheduled to begin at local midnight on November 12, 2026, one week before launch. Codes redeemed before launch also support preload, according to the preorder announcement. The physical boxed version is a code-in-box product: it includes a download code and no disc, so it does not provide an option to install the game from physical media. See the Rockstar Store listing.
Choosing between PS5 and Xbox
There is not enough official performance data to recommend one console over another on frame rate, resolution or storage grounds. For now, the useful distinctions are platform availability, Rockstar’s PS5 “Plays Best On” label, and the way you prefer to buy and access the game. Rockstar has not published separate GTA VI performance claims for Xbox Series X and Series S.
If buying a code, Rockstar Support recommends purchasing and playing from a retailer in the country associated with the platform account to avoid potential activation issues. Its guidance details PlayStation code regions and says Xbox codes are not region-locked. Check the support page’s current regional guidance before buying a code.
