Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteChoose PS5 Pro if you want the chance of better visuals or smoother performance in games that specifically support its enhancements—and your display can show the difference. Choose a standard PS5 if you mainly want to play the games themselves and would rather avoid paying extra for benefits that vary by title. Grand Theft Auto VI is officially listed for both PS5 and PS5 Pro, with a “PS5 Pro Enhanced” label, but PlayStation has not published its resolution or frame-rate targets. That badge confirms enhanced status, not a specific performance result.
What does PS5 Pro add for open-world games?
Sony promotes three kinds of potential improvements on PS5 Pro: PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), advanced ray tracing, and higher or more consistent frame rates. PSSR uses image reconstruction to increase effective resolution; ray tracing can improve the rendering of lighting effects. What any one game actually gains depends on how its developers implement Pro support.

Sony says Pro features are available only in selected games enhanced for PS5, vary by game, and may require a compatible display. The company lists more than 100 enhanced PS5 titles on its US product page, but that is a general catalog figure—not a count of upcoming open-world games or a promise that every new release will use every feature. See Sony’s PS5 Pro feature details.
The feature set is still evolving. In a March 16, 2026 post, Sony described the rollout of upgraded PSSR support and discussed titles including Monster Hunter Wilds, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Crimson Desert, and Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Sony also noted that results vary by title. A feature update or Pro label therefore does not replace checking the specific game’s technical details.
#1 Best Overall
- Ray Tracing - Immerse yourself in worlds with a new level of realism as rays of light are individually simulated, creating true-to-life shadows and reflections in supported PS5 games.
- Faster Loading - Fast-travel across the map and get back into the game almost instantly with the PlayStation 5 console’s ultra-high-speed SSD and fast load times.
- Stunning Visuals - Experience the vast world in stunning 4K and HDR at 120 FPS (with a 4K and HDR compatible TV or display)
- Breathtaking Immersion - Discover a deeper gaming experience with support for haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, and 3D Audio technology.
- Backwards Compatibility - Play over 4,000 PS4 games on PS5. Enjoy faster and smoother frame rates in some of the PS4 console's greatest games.
What is confirmed for GTA VI on PS5 Pro?
PlayStation’s US listing says Grand Theft Auto VI is coming to PS5 and PS5 Pro on November 19, 2026, and labels it “PS5 Pro Enhanced.” The listing describes a single-player game set in Leonida and Vice City. Check the official GTA VI listing for its current platform and release information.
The listing does not specify a Pro resolution, frame-rate target, graphics mode, ray-tracing implementation, or measured comparison with base PS5. Do not treat “PS5 Pro Enhanced” as confirmation of native 4K, 60 frames per second, or any other particular result. If GTA VI is the main reason you are considering the Pro, wait for game-specific technical details or reliable launch testing if those numbers matter to you.

PS5 vs. PS5 Pro: which factors should decide?
| Factor | PS5 Pro | Standard PS5 |
|---|---|---|
| Enhanced-game support | Can use Pro features in games whose developers support them; improvements vary by title. | Plays PS5 games without Pro-specific enhancements. |
| Visual and performance priorities | Worth considering if you value features such as PSSR, advanced ray tracing, or higher or more consistent frame rates in supported games. | Better fit if your priority is playing the games and you do not need the potential Pro improvements. |
| Display | Some enhanced features depend on a compatible display. | Does not require a display to realize Pro-specific benefits. |
| Physical media | Sold as an all-digital console; the detachable disc drive is separate. | Check the specific model you are comparing to see whether it includes a disc drive. |
| Storage and other costs | Sony’s US Direct listing specifies 2TB; the vertical stand and disc drive are sold separately. | A current like-for-like standard PS5 price is not established here. Compare current local listings and bundles. |
The table is a buying framework, not a claim that every game will look or run better on Pro. Compare the actual prices available in your region, including only accessories you need; console pricing, stock, and bundles can change.
Do you need a separate disc drive?
PS5 Pro is all-digital out of the box. If you own physical PS5 or compatible PS4 games, or want to play movie discs, factor in the cost and setup of Sony’s compatible detachable disc drive. If your library is digital, that accessory may not be necessary. Sony’s manual lists supported disc formats, including PS5-format Ultra HD Blu-ray, compatible PS4 Blu-ray, BD-ROM, BD-R, BD-RE, and DVD formats; check the current product and compatibility information before buying. Read Sony’s disc-drive installation and compatibility guidance.
Quick Recap
A practical way to make the decision
- List the games you expect to play. Look for an official “PS5 Pro Enhanced” label and game-specific technical details. A label indicates support, not a guaranteed resolution or frame rate.
- Check your display. Note its resolution and refresh-rate capabilities, then compare those with the requirements for the specific features you care about. Sony says some enhanced features require a compatible display.
- Account for physical media. If you need disc playback on Pro, include the separate compatible disc drive in your total.
- Compare the real local cost. Check current console prices, bundles, stock, and any accessories you actually need. The US listings do not establish a current like-for-like price comparison for every market.
- Decide how much uncertainty you will accept. If one unreleased game is driving the purchase and its performance details are unknown, waiting for official specifications or launch testing is the lower-risk choice.
