The PS5 Slim contains a lithium coin-cell battery, but Sony’s CFI-20XX safety guide does not provide an owner replacement procedure, service interval, or replacement part number. That battery is not the same as the rechargeable battery in a DualSense controller. For cooling, Sony’s practical guidance is to keep the console ventilated, remove dust with a handheld vacuum, and power down and unplug before removing covers.
Does the PS5 Slim have a battery?
Yes. Sony’s PS5 CFI-20XX Safety Guide states: “WARNING: This console contains a lithium button / coin cell battery.” The guide identifies the component but does not explain its function or give instructions for replacing it.

Sony separately says, “The controller contains a lithium-ion rechargeable battery.” The console’s coin cell and a DualSense controller’s rechargeable battery are different components and different repair questions.
Can you replace the console coin cell yourself?
The reviewed guide does not provide a replacement procedure, service interval, part number, or criteria for owner replacement. It also does not establish an approved aftermarket replacement cell. Do not treat the guide’s battery safety warnings as permission or instructions to open the console for this repair. If you mean the DualSense battery, use the appropriate official PlayStation support channel; the reviewed guide does not establish a DIY controller-battery procedure either.

How do you clean dust out of a PS5 Slim?
Sony recommends using a handheld vacuum to remove dust from the vents and dust trapped beneath the removable covers. Before removing covers, turn the console off, disconnect the AC power cord and other cables, and let it cool. Refit the covers correctly before use. Sony warns: “Do not use the console without the cover. Doing so may cause fire, electrical shock, or malfunction.”
- Turn the console off, disconnect the AC power cord and cables, and wait for it to cool.
- Remove the covers according to the instructions for your CFI-20XX model.
- Use a handheld vacuum to remove dust from the vents and from beneath the covers.
- Reinstall the covers correctly before reconnecting power and turning the console on.
The model-specific guide recommends a handheld vacuum; it does not recommend compressed air, liquid cleaners, fan disassembly, or thermal-interface work as routine cleaning steps.

How should you position the console to help prevent overheating?
Keep all vents unobstructed and place the PS5 Slim where air can circulate rather than in a cramped space. Avoid long-fiber carpet and do not cover the console with cloth. PlayStation’s PS5: The Ultimate FAQ recommends at least 10 cm (4 in) between the console and a wall. That clearance is manufacturer guidance, not a guarantee that a console will never overheat.

What should you do if the PS5 Slim shows a high-temperature warning?
Sony’s safety guide says: “If you see the [high temperature] notification, turn off your PS5 console and wait until it cools down.” Once it has cooled, check airflow and any installed M.2 drive:

- Move the console to a well-ventilated location and make sure its vents are not blocked.
- If you have installed an M.2 SSD, check that its heat-dissipation parts, such as a heatsink or heat-transfer sheet, have not detached.
Do not keep playing through the warning. If the message or overheating continues after these checks, contact PlayStation Support for your region.
M.2 SSD checks apply only if you added a drive
The CFI-20XX guide supports commercially available PCIe Gen4 x4 M.2 NVMe SSDs with an M key, capacities from 250 GB to 4 TB, and listed sizes of 2230, 2242, 2260, 2280, or 22110, subject to the guide’s physical limits. M.2 SATA drives are not supported. If an SSD does not include heat-dissipation hardware, Sony says to attach a heat conductor such as a heatsink or heat-transfer sheet; without it, the drive may overheat and continued use may cause operation failure. Sony does not guarantee every third-party drive that meets the listed specifications. An M.2 heatsink is a drive-specific requirement, not a general fix for console fan noise or cooling.

Why is the PS5 Slim fan loud?
The fan may temporarily run louder in some games or applications while cooling the system. PlayStation’s noise troubleshooting guidance recommends checking that vents are unobstructed, providing space around the console, avoiding cramped placement and long-fiber carpet, and removing dust with a low-power vacuum. The page is localized for Romania, so use your local PlayStation Support page for regional instructions. If the noise persists after airflow and dust checks, contact PlayStation Support.

There is no single warranty rule established here for every country: coverage, service eligibility, and repair routes vary by region. Check the warranty terms for your own market before opening the console or arranging third-party repair. For example, the reviewed PlayStation warranty page for Indonesia explicitly applies only in Indonesia; it cannot establish coverage elsewhere. If cooling or noise problems persist, follow your region’s official PlayStation support and repair process.
