But a game that boots or runs briefly is not necessarily playable to completion. The demonstrations still include visual defects, uneven performance, and crashes.
What the latest PS5 emulation progress actually shows
The strongest recent figures concern SharpEmu. A September 27, 2026 report on Tom’s Hardware says build v0.0.4-release.2 reached gameplay in 12 of 55 tested titles. Six were listed as playable at 60 FPS: Dreaming Sarah, Void Terrarium, New Joe & Mac: Caveman Ninja, Tetris Forever, Hoa, and Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered.

That is a meaningful step, but the report explicitly says the six had not been tested from beginning to end. It also notes that minor visual or audio issues might remain. “Playable” here is a reported compatibility label, not a guarantee that a game can be completed reliably.
Booting, gameplay, and completion are different milestones
Emulator coverage can use words such as “boots,” “reaches a menu,” “in-game,” and “playable” as if they describe the same result. They do not. A title may start but fail before reaching a menu; it may accept input in gameplay but suffer from rendering errors; or it may run for a short demonstration and then crash. Completion requires a much stronger showing: a game must work through its full length with sufficiently reliable performance.

That distinction matters in the recent KytyPS5 examples. In a July 31, 2026 report, Tom’s Hardware described XIII reaching gameplay at around 30 FPS, but with obvious visual glitches. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Wrath of the Mutants was reported at roughly 22–24 FPS and had crashed on its first launch. These are evidence of progress in getting games running, not proof of smooth or dependable play.
Why the GTA V demonstration needs context
A September 2026 report on Tom’s Hardware described the PS5 version of GTA V running at roughly 40–60 FPS in a limited early section under KytyPS5. The demonstration used a Ryzen 9 9950X3D and Radeon RX 7900 XT, then crashed shortly afterward.

The frame-rate range is therefore not a measure of stable performance across the open world, and it says nothing about finishing the game. The listed PC is the configuration used for that particular high-end demonstration—not a verified minimum requirement or a recommendation to upgrade.

The projects have shown different results and, according to the July KytyPS5 coverage, different emphases: KytyPS5 was focused on expanding compatibility, while SharpEmu was also working on accuracy and infrastructure. Their separate clips and compatibility reports should not be combined into a ranking of which emulator is “best.”

The available reports do not provide a standardized, controlled comparison. A fair evaluation would need to account for the emulator build, operating system, game version, PC configuration, test length, frame-rate stability, visual and audio faults, and whether the game merely boots or can be completed. The recent reports do not establish a common test across those conditions.
What this means if you want to play PS5 games on PC
- Check the exact build and game entry. Compatibility changes as emulators develop; a result for one build does not establish the status of another.
- Look for the depth of the test. A brief gameplay clip is less informative than a documented full-game test.
- Read performance and stability together. A high peak FPS does not show whether frame rates hold steady or whether the game crashes.
- Do not infer a PC requirement from a showcase rig. The reports cited here do not establish general minimum hardware requirements.
SharpEmu’s developers describe it as “an experimental emulator intended for research and educational purposes,” as quoted by Tom’s Hardware. That description is a useful reminder of the projects’ experimental status: the reported milestones are promising, but they do not amount to broad, dependable PS5 game compatibility on PC.

Why the headline progress is still significant
Reaching gameplay across a growing set of titles is a concrete technical milestone, even when a game has not been completed or still has defects. The recent results show that PS5 emulation is moving beyond isolated boot screens toward actual in-game demonstrations. The next meaningful test is whether those demonstrations become repeatable, stable experiences across longer play sessions and more of the games people want to play.
