Google’s Motion Assist can already appear automatically when it detects vehicle motion on supported Android phones. A possible Pixel Transit mode connection is not confirmed: strings found in Google Play services suggest Google is exploring it, but the company has not announced the integration or said when—or whether—it will arrive.
What the reported Pixel Transit connection would mean
Android Authority reported on October 1, 2026, that strings in Google Play services version 26.38.30 include the notification text “Motion assist activated by transit mode.” The wording points to a possible link between Pixel Transit mode and Motion Assist, Google’s visual aid for passengers who feel motion sickness while looking at a phone.

The report is based on app strings, not an announced feature. Transit mode could potentially provide another way to trigger Motion Assist, but the strings do not establish how it would work. Google has not confirmed that it will use transit schedules or location data, which Pixel models might support the integration, or a release date. The feature may never ship. How Motion Assist works today
Motion Assist displays small visual bubbles along the edges of the screen. They move in response to the phone’s motion sensors, tracking vehicle movements such as turning, accelerating and braking. Google says the visual cues are intended to help align what a passenger sees with what their body feels, making it more comfortable to use a phone while travelling. The feature is not a treatment or a guarantee against motion sickness. Google’s Motion Assist help page explains its controls and behavior.

Automatic activation by vehicle-motion detection
The documented automatic option is called “Start in a moving vehicle.” When enabled, Motion Assist can show bubbles after the phone detects vehicle motion. Google cautions that detection can fail: “Your device may not always be able to detect when you’re in a moving vehicle.” A silent notification appears when automatic activation starts; tapping that notification turns Motion Assist off for that session.
Manual activation with Quick Settings
A Motion Assist tile in Quick Settings gives you a manual way to turn the feature on or off. Google recommends adding it as a backup in case automatic detection misses your trip. You can also adjust bubble opacity, color theme and shape, or enable randomization.

How to check whether you can use Motion Assist
Google’s stated requirements are Android 17 or higher and updated Google Play services. Its help page does not list eligible Pixel models, so those requirements alone do not establish that every Pixel phone supports the feature. Google’s September 1, 2026 Android Drop announcement also describes Motion Assist for phones using Android 17, including automatic activation and Quick Settings access.
- Open Settings and search for “Motion assist.” If the setting appears, open it.
- Turn on “Start in a moving vehicle” if you want automatic activation when vehicle motion is detected.
- Add the Motion Assist tile to Quick Settings so you can start it manually when needed.
- If the setting is missing, check that your phone is running Android 17 or higher and that Google Play services is updated. The published requirements do not guarantee availability on every model.

Safety and limitations
Google says results vary, Motion Assist may not work for everyone, and a small percentage of users may experience worsened symptoms. Stop using it if you feel discomfort. Do not use it while operating a moving vehicle or in any situation that requires your full attention for safety. Google’s Android feature page includes these cautions.
