Can you emulate PS3 games on Linux?
RPCS3 is the clearly documented Linux route in the available sources. It is an open-source PS3 emulator, but that does not mean every game works, or that a game that runs on one PC will perform the same on another. Start with the project’s compatibility list and look up the exact game before choosing hardware.

Read the game’s status, not just the emulator’s name
RPCS3 describes its compatibility list as a frequently changing database. Its status definitions distinguish games that can be completed with playable performance and no game-breaking glitches from entries that cannot be finished, have serious glitches, or have insufficient performance. A listed status is useful guidance, not a performance guarantee for every Linux PC.

When comparing games, check the exact title entry and any relevant game ID. Compatibility is game-specific and can change as the database is updated. The live totals and percentages on the list are snapshots, not durable measures of how well a particular game will run on your machine.

What setup involves
- Check the RPCS3 compatibility entry for the game you want to play.
- Follow the current instructions in the RPCS3 FAQ, including installing official PS3 firmware.
- Use a legitimate game copy. RPCS3’s compatibility guidance points to purchased games or discs and says the project does not condone piracy.
- Test the game on your own hardware and consult its compatibility entry for issues before relying on it as your only way to play.

When is an original PS3 the better choice?

Sony’s 2022 announcement described PS3 games streamed through the service on PS4, PS5, and PC at launch; that announcement should not be read as a guarantee that any particular title remains available today. Check Sony’s current catalog for your country, target device, and game.

PC streaming requirements
Sony’s PlayStation Plus on PC support page says PC streaming requires a Premium subscription, a compatible controller, and broadband with a listed minimum speed of 5 Mbps. This requirement is for Sony’s PC service guidance; confirm the current rules for your country and device. A minimum speed does not guarantee a smooth experience, and streaming depends on network conditions.
What is known about PS5 Pro Linux support?
The available authoritative sources do not establish whether Linux currently runs on PS5 Pro, which firmware versions might be involved, or how RPCS3 would perform on that hardware.
