Prusa’s current page listed four- and eight-tool configurations from $1,699 to $2,249 when accessed October 7, 2026, but the system also reduces the installed build volume and adds setup complexity. The strongest case for it is the possibility of faster, lower-waste tool changes—not a guarantee that every job will be faster or cleaner.
What is the CORE One+ INDX?
The CORE One+ INDX combines Prusa’s enclosed CoreXY printer with Bondtech’s INDX toolchanger. Prusa describes the design as “a toolchanger that turns your CORE One+ into an 8-material machine.” It uses one active smart head and up to eight passive toolheads, with induction heating at the nozzle. That is a different approach from systems that feed multiple filaments through one shared hot end: INDX keeps multiple tools ready and changes the active tool for a print. Prusa’s INDX specifications explain the architecture.

The practical appeal is less time spent unloading and loading filament between colors or materials, and potentially less purge waste. The trade-off is paying for extra tools and accepting their installation footprint and configuration demands.

| Configuration | Displayed price |
|---|---|
| Four tools, kit | $1,699 |
| Eight tools, kit | $1,949 |
| Four tools, assembled | $1,999 |
| Eight tools, assembled | $2,249 |
The four-tool option is the lower-cost way to get the toolchanger; the eight-tool version is for users who expect to keep more materials or colors ready. The assembled-versus-kit choice is also a choice about how much setup work you are willing to take on. These current retail configurations should not be confused with early Founder’s Edition conversion-kit pricing or experiences reported by reviewers.
What do you give up to install INDX?
Prusa lists the installed build volume as 248 × 205 × 270 mm. Tom’s Hardware reports that this is 2 mm less in X and 15 mm less in Y than the CORE One+ without INDX. If your usual models push the printer’s full footprint, check their dimensions against the installed volume before choosing the upgrade. Prusa’s product specifications list the INDX volume; Tom’s Hardware’s review gives the comparison with the standard CORE One+.

You’ll be ready to print your first model in minutes thanks to intuitive software and one-click printing.
- The printer includes a free 1 kg spool of Prusament PLA Prusa Galaxy Black; Prusa Research offers lifetime technical assistance and 24 hours professional customer service.
How fast and wasteful is it?
Prusa lists tool changes at approximately 12–16 seconds and purge waste at approximately 13 mg per swap. These are manufacturer figures, not a guarantee for every print; real job time also depends on how many changes the model needs and how the print is configured. A tool swap is not the same as a complete color change time, and the listed swap figure should not be read as a total-print-time promise. Prusa’s INDX page provides those estimates.
One comparison by Tom’s Hardware’s reviewer found an INDX print finished nearly nine hours faster than the tested Bambu Lab H2C print, used 83.58 g less material waste excluding supports, and used three more colors. That is a result from one model and test setup, not a general performance guarantee or a universal comparison with other multicolor systems. The review is useful evidence that the toolchanger can make a substantial difference in a particular job, but it cannot predict results for your models, settings, or material combinations. Read the review’s test and context.

What materials and nozzles does Prusa list?
Prusa specifies 1.75 mm filament, a maximum nozzle temperature of 300 °C, and nozzle options from 0.25 to 1.0 mm. Its listed materials include PLA, PETG, ASA, ABS, PC, PA, TPU, PVA, and BVOH, with limitations for abrasive materials. These are manufacturer compatibility claims; they do not establish that every filament in those categories will work equally well in every tool or print setup. Check Prusa’s current compatibility and material guidance for the filament you plan to use. The official INDX page lists specifications and material notes.
Is installation difficult?
It depends on which configuration you buy. An assembled printer avoids the conversion work required to retrofit an existing CORE One+. Tom’s Hardware reports that converting an early Founder’s Edition printer took its reviewer most of a weekend, while Prusa estimated five to six hours. That experience should not be treated as the installation time for a current standard kit or as a reason to expect the same effort from every owner. Tom’s Hardware describes the conversion experience.

- [HIGH-SPEED FDM PRINTING PERFORMANCE] Delivers fast and reliable desktop 3D printing with excellent surface quality and dimensional accuracy. Print Size 9.84 x 8.3 x 8.6 in.
- [INPUT SHAPING FOR CLEAN RESULTS] Advanced motion compensation reduces ringing and vibrations for sharper edges at higher speeds.
- [PROFESSIONAL-GRADE RELIABILITY] Designed for consistent day-to-day operation in workshops, studios, and production environments.
- [OPEN-SOURCE & UPGRADEABLE SYSTEM] Built on Prusa’s open ecosystem with long-term firmware updates and hardware upgrade paths.
- [IDEAL FOR PRODUCTION & PROTOTYPING] Suitable for both functional parts and detailed prototypes requiring dependable output.
The review also describes a difficult configuration decision. That matters because a toolchanger is not simply a set of extra colors: users need to understand how their materials and tools are assigned and how the print is set up. TechRadar reported very good multicolor print quality, along with a couple of misprints in its initial runs that were later resolved as the reviewer learned the system. Those are observations from that reviewer’s early use, not a defect-rate estimate. TechRadar’s review discusses its print experience.

Who should buy it?
It makes sense if you
- Often print parts with several colors or materials and value having separate tools ready.
- Can use the reduced installed build volume for the models you actually print.
- Are willing to work through a more involved setup, or prefer to buy the assembled configuration.
- Want the flexibility of multiple nozzle and material options, within Prusa’s stated compatibility limits.
Look elsewhere if you
- Rarely print multicolor or multi-material parts, making the added tool capacity hard to use.
- Need every millimeter of the standard CORE One+ build area.
- Want a straightforward upgrade and are not prepared to manage additional configuration.
- Need independently established long-term reliability or failure-rate data before buying; the available reviews and specifications do not establish those outcomes.
Verdict
The CORE One+ INDX is a compelling toolchanger for a specific kind of user: someone who will regularly take advantage of several ready tools and values the potential to reduce material purging and time spent switching filaments. The manufacturer’s swap and purge figures and Tom’s Hardware’s single comparative test show why the concept is attractive, but they are not guarantees for your own prints. The purchase makes less sense when multicolor work is occasional, the smaller installed build area is a problem, or you want a simple setup. Compare the current price of the assembled and kit options against how often you will actually use the extra tools.
