Why using a pirated copy can infringe copyright
U.S. copyright law protects computer software. The U.S. Copyright Office explains that loading an illegal software copy onto a computer involves unauthorized reproduction of the program. That is different from making a permitted archival copy: the Copyright Office describes that limited rule as applying to a legal owner of a program copy, subject to conditions and applicable license terms. It does not authorize downloading or sharing someone else’s copy.

Civil damages are not an automatic fine
The U.S. Copyright Office says statutory damages may reach $30,000 per work, and may reach $150,000 per work if willful infringement is proven. Criminal infringement requires specific conditions
U.S. law provides for criminal penalties for willful infringement when the infringement meets circumstances set out in the statute. Those include listed conditions involving commercial advantage or private financial gain, and certain reproduction or distribution thresholds. How to choose an editor for your project
If you are deciding between trying VEGAS Pro and moving to Resolve, start with the work you need to do rather than assuming one is universally better. Check the operating-system and hardware requirements, the editing, color, and audio features you rely on, available learning resources, collaboration and export workflow, and whether you need to keep working with existing project files. Confirm these details in each product’s current documentation before switching; the options above do not imply a complete feature-by-feature comparison.
Why avoid unofficial installers?
There is no reliable malware rate established here for cracked VEGAS installers, so it would be misleading to claim that every crack contains malware or to assign a probability. That uncertainty is not a reason to trust an unauthorized installer: use an official trial, a legitimate license, or a legal free editor instead.
