Find where the picture first turns black—inside the webpage, PRISM’s preview, the captured window, or YouTube’s live player—then troubleshoot that specific point. A black image can have different causes, and PRISM’s official guidance does not identify one setting that fixes every case.
First, locate where the video goes black
Check the same video at each stage of your setup. If it is already black in the browser or media player, PRISM may simply be capturing that black image. If it looks normal outside PRISM but is black in PRISM’s preview, investigate the PRISM source and capture settings. If the preview looks right but the live output is black, check the output in YouTube’s player and confirm which source PRISM is sending.

- Black only in YouTube’s live player: compare the live output with PRISM’s preview; the issue may be at the playback or output stage.
If you added the video as a browser or webpage source
PRISM Live Studio notes that videos and sounds on some webpages may not play normally because of technical constraints. That means a browser source can remain black even when other PRISM sources work; it does not establish a universal setting that will make every webpage video play.

- Test the page outside PRISM. Open it in the browser you use for the source. If the video is black there too, resolve the browser playback issue before changing PRISM’s scene.
- Reduce unnecessary browser sources. PRISM’s performance guidance says browser sources can add GPU load and recommends minimizing them where possible.
- Check hardware acceleration. In PRISM’s settings, find the option labeled Use hardware acceleration when available and test with it enabled. Restart or reload the source if needed to see whether the change affects it. PRISM recommends this as a performance check, not a guaranteed fix for black webpage video. Interface labels can vary by app version.
- Compare with a permitted local file. If you have rights to use the video, test it as a PRISM Media Source instead. If the local file displays but the webpage does not, the problem is more likely specific to the webpage/source path than to the entire scene.
If PRISM is capturing a browser window or your desktop
Window and display capture depend on the capture method and graphics hardware. On Windows, check the graphics-card assignment and the capture method before changing other equipment.

- Use the same graphics card. Check that PRISM and the browser or target application are assigned to the same GPU. A mismatch can interfere with capture.
- For Window Capture on Windows 10 version 1903 or later, try Windows Graphics Capture. PRISM recommends this method for that Windows capture case.
- For Display Capture, review the capture-method setting. PRISM’s documented guidance recommends DXGI Desktop Duplication for optimal performance in its described context. The best option can depend on your setup, so test the available methods rather than assuming one will resolve every black screen.
- Recheck the preview after each change. Change one setting at a time so you can identify whether the capture method or GPU assignment made a difference.
If YouTube’s own player is black or green
If the video is already black or green in YouTube’s player before PRISM captures it, PRISM’s scene settings may not be the cause. YouTube’s help page for a green screen in the video player advises trying browser hardware-acceleration settings. That guidance concerns YouTube playback rendering; it is not proof that changing browser acceleration will fix a black PRISM livestream.
If you are using a local video file
PRISM Media Source plays files stored on your device. This can be a useful alternative to capturing a webpage when you have permission to use the file, but it does not grant permission to rebroadcast copyrighted material.

- Match resolutions where practical. PRISM advises matching the media-source resolution to the transmission resolution where practical.
- Be aware of the trade-off. Larger media files use more CPU. Hardware decoding can reduce some CPU work but increase GPU usage, so test it against your system’s available resources.
- Check the source itself. Play the file locally outside PRISM to confirm it is not damaged or black before troubleshooting the scene.
If the source is a camera or capture card
These checks apply to a video-capture-device input, not directly to a browser video source.

- Confirm the cable is connected and the device is recognized by the computer.
- Check that the device’s drivers are installed and current.
- Close other apps that may be using the camera or capture device.
- Verify that the selected resolution and frame rate are supported by the device.
Check compatibility only after source-specific fixes
PRISM’s PC app FAQ lists DirectX 11 support and an NVIDIA GTX 960 or equivalent as minimum graphics requirements. These are product requirements, not evidence that upgrading a graphics card will fix this particular black-screen symptom. Check that your system meets PRISM’s stated requirements, but diagnose the source and capture path first.
