Before you print: connect both devices to Wi-Fi
Set up the Canon printer on your local wireless network using the instructions for its exact model. Then connect the Galaxy phone to that same network. Wireless discovery usually depends on both devices being able to reach one another on the local network.

Canon’s wireless setup and supported features vary by model. For a compatible PIXMA, MAXIFY, or SELPHY printer, Canon PRINT may help with setup and printer registration; a printer on the same wireless LAN should appear for registration when supported. Check your model on Canon’s support site, especially if you are in the United States, because app and feature availability can vary by region.

Use Canon PRINT for a supported consumer model
Install Canon PRINT only if Canon lists your exact printer as compatible. Open the app and follow its setup or registration prompts, then use its photo or document printing options where available. The app’s features depend on the printer model and region.

Use an Android print service for system printing
On the Galaxy, open Settings and search for Printing. Enable a listed service, or choose Download plugin if you need to install a printer service. Use Canon Print Service only if Canon lists your printer as supported. Samsung notes that many printers may work without a plugin, but compatibility still matters.
Do not install every Canon printing app by default. Consumer Canon PRINT and Canon PRINT Business are intended for different product lines; use the instructions for your printer rather than assuming a business app is right for a home printer.

Print a document or photo from the Galaxy
- Open the item in an app that supports printing. Not every app offers a print option.
- Open the print command. Depending on the app, tap Share > Print, or open the app’s menu and choose Print.
- Select the printer. Tap Select printer and choose the Canon device. If it is missing, follow the troubleshooting steps below.
- Review the available settings. Expand the settings arrow if needed and check options such as paper size, color, and orientation. The choices depend on the app and printer.
- Tap Print to send the job.
For printing from Canon PRINT, open the photo or document in that app and follow its print prompts; available features depend on whether the model is supported.
If your Samsung phone cannot find the Canon printer
- Check the network connection. Make sure the printer is on and connected to Wi-Fi, and that the phone is on the same local network. A different Wi-Fi network can prevent discovery.
- Check the print service. In Galaxy Settings, search for Printing and confirm the relevant service is enabled. Verify that the service supports your Canon model.
- Refresh the phone’s Wi-Fi connection. Turn Wi-Fi off and back on, then try printer discovery again.
- Try manual discovery if supported. Canon Print Service and some compatible Galaxy printing services allow adding a printer by its IP address. Use the printer’s network information and follow the prompts in the service.
- Check the printer’s network setup. Confirm its wireless configuration and consult the support page for the exact model. A discovery issue can originate in the printer’s network settings, not just the phone.
Samsung’s US guidance mentions Bluetooth during scanning in some circumstances. Network printing is generally Wi-Fi-based; enable Bluetooth if the Galaxy interface prompts for it, rather than treating it as a universal requirement.

Check compatibility before buying supplies
“Canon printer” is not enough information to identify compatible ink or toner. Find the model number on the printer or in its settings, then check the matching Canon specifications for supplies and supported paper sizes or media types. The available paper settings shown during printing also depend on the model.
