Which phone has the better display?
Both phones have a 6.7-inch AMOLED panel with a refresh rate that can reach 120 Hz. The Phone (2) adds LTPO technology and a wider adaptive refresh-rate range: 1–120 Hz, compared with 30–120 Hz on the Phone (2a). Its listed HDR peak brightness is 1600 nits; the Phone (2a) lists a 1300-nit peak.
Those figures make the Phone (2) the stronger specification choice for display refinement. Peak-brightness numbers are manufacturer specifications and do not guarantee identical visibility in every setting.

How do the processors compare?
The Phone (2) uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, while the Phone (2a) uses MediaTek’s Dimensity 7200 Pro. The chip names identify different platforms, but the official product pages do not establish how much faster one phone is in everyday use, gaming or sustained workloads. A performance winner would require comparable independent testing, so the specification alone is not a measured speed result.
Do the cameras make one phone the clear winner?
Both models list dual 50 MP rear cameras and a 32 MP front camera. The clearest specification difference is rear-video frame rate: the Phone (2) supports 4K recording at up to 60 fps on its main rear camera, while the Phone (2a) lists 4K rear video at up to 30 fps.
That gives the Phone (2) the higher listed frame-rate option for 4K main-camera video. Megapixel counts and recording modes alone do not show which phone takes better photos or produces better video; the manufacturer specifications are not a comparative camera test.

Which has better battery capacity and charging?
The Phone (2a) lists a 5,000 mAh battery, versus 4,700 mAh in the Phone (2). That is a larger rated capacity, not proof of longer battery life: the official specifications cited here do not establish comparative endurance from a matched test.
Both list 45 W wired charging. The Phone (2) also specifies 15 W Qi wireless charging and 5 W reverse charging. Choose it if those additional charging options matter; choose the Phone (2a) if the larger listed capacity is your priority.
Which phone is lighter and smaller?
The Phone (2a) is listed at 190 g, 11.2 g less than the Phone (2) at 201.2 g. Their listed dimensions are close: 161.74 × 76.32 × 8.55 mm for the Phone (2a) and 162.1 × 76.4 × 8.6 mm for the Phone (2). The Phone (2a) is therefore the lighter option, while the listed measurements show only a small difference in size.

What is the price difference?
A fair price difference cannot be calculated from the available official listings because they do not show a matched, in-stock pair for the same market and configuration. Nothing’s US listing showed the Phone (2) with 12 GB RAM and 256 GB storage at $699, marked sold out. Nothing’s Phone (2a) page lists 8 GB or 12 GB RAM and 128 GB or 256 GB storage, but does not establish a comparable current US price. The Phone (2) page for the EU shows €699; that is a different market and should not be treated as equivalent to the US listing.
