Releases already published under MIT remain under those terms, but active development and new releases have moved to PrimeUI. Your next step depends on whether you can stay on an existing release, qualify for the Community license, need a commercial license, or would rather migrate.
What changed—and what stayed the same?
PrimeNG’s repository README says the project is no longer under active development and receives security fixes only; active development and new releases are now at PrimeUI. The README also says that each PrimeNG release published under MIT remains under its original MIT terms and that existing projects are unaffected. That assurance applies to releases already published under MIT; it does not mean future releases are MIT-licensed.

PrimeTek has described the move to the PrimeUI license for future major versions as a way to fund engineering, support, and long-term maintenance. That is the company’s stated rationale, not a guarantee of particular future service levels or outcomes.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
| Option | Best fit when | Key trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Stay on an existing MIT release | Your current version meets product needs and you can accept its maintenance and compatibility limits. | The repository says it receives security fixes only; it does not promise feature development or a particular support duration. |
| Use the Community license | Your team and organization meet all current eligibility criteria. | Eligibility must continue; the license key needs annual renewal by re-confirming eligibility. |
| Buy a commercial license | You need new versions, support, or coverage for a larger or differently structured team. | Terms differ between per-developer and annual site licenses; check the consequences of expiry. |
| Migrate to another component library | The licensing model, eligibility, budget, or roadmap makes continued PrimeUI use unsuitable. | You will need to assess fit and migration effort, including compatibility and accessibility. |
Stay on the MIT release you already use
If your application is working well on an existing MIT-licensed PrimeNG release, the license change alone does not require an immediate switch or purchase. The trade-off is that the old repository is no longer actively developed and receives security fixes only. Treat that as a maintenance and roadmap decision: consider how long your product can remain on the version, what Angular or other dependency changes you expect, and whether you can maintain the application if future compatibility work is needed.
Check whether the Community license applies
The Community license permits eligible teams to develop and deliver commercial applications. It covers up to four developer seats and specifies that the team must have fewer than five developers, alongside other eligibility requirements. Team size alone does not establish eligibility: review the complete current terms against your organization’s actual circumstances.

The Community key lasts twelve months. Renewal is available at no cost, but requires re-confirming that you still meet the criteria. The agreement also allows PrimeTek to request reasonable verification. Do not assume that eligibility at initial sign-up automatically continues if your staffing or organization changes.

Choose between commercial license structures
PrimeUI describes two commercial arrangements. A per-developer license includes one year of updates and support. When that update period ends, you retain perpetual use of the versions you received during it; renewing restores access to new versions and continued support.

An annual site license covers developers within an agreed organization or division scope. It requires renewal for ongoing development after expiry, although applications already deployed continue to run. Site licenses are individually quoted, and the published terms say prices may change, so do not treat a quote as a universal or fixed price.
When comparing these structures, account for active developer count, team turnover, which organization or division needs coverage, how often you rebuild or update deployed applications, and how important ongoing updates and support are. The key difference is not just price: the licenses define different scopes and different consequences when coverage expires.

Consider migration without assuming a “best” replacement
Moving to another component library can make sense if you do not qualify for Community terms, do not want the commercial arrangement, or need a different maintenance model. No single alternative can be called the best choice without checking your application’s requirements and the candidate library’s current documentation.
Compare component coverage, accessibility, theming, Angular compatibility, migration effort, maintenance model, and license terms. Include the cost of adapting your application and testing it—not just the license fee—in the decision.

Before upgrading an existing application
Licensing is only one part of the change. PrimeNG’s v21 migration guide highlights PassThrough attributes, Unstyled Mode, modern CSS-based animations, and initial zoneless support. It describes v21 as a drop-in replacement apart from an animation-related exception, but your application’s own usage determines whether an upgrade is straightforward.
The guide says showTransitionOptions and hideTransitionOptions are deprecated and no longer functional because animations moved to native CSS. It also identifies deprecations scheduled for removal in v22. Check the migration guide for the target version and search your codebase for those transition options and other deprecated APIs before upgrading.
- Identify the PrimeNG version your application uses and the version you intend to adopt.
- Review the migration guidance for that target version, including animation changes and deprecations.
- Test the upgrade in a branch or non-production environment, especially the components and interactions your application relies on.
- Run your application’s automated tests and check visual behavior, accessibility, and compatibility with your Angular setup.
- Make the licensing decision separately from the technical one: confirm the terms that cover the versions and development activity you plan to use.
A practical decision sequence
- Confirm what you have. Record the PrimeNG release in use and whether it was published under MIT. The project’s statement preserves the terms of those published releases.
- Decide whether staying put is viable. If the version meets your needs, weigh the security-fix-only maintenance status against your product roadmap and dependency plans.
- Check Community eligibility in full. Verify all current criteria, not just the fewer-than-five-developers limit, and consider whether your team can remain eligible.
- Model commercial coverage. Compare per-developer seats with the site license’s agreed organizational scope, and include update, support, renewal, and expiry needs.
- Estimate the real migration burden. Assess technical fit and test the actual application before treating a library switch or major-version upgrade as low-effort.
License terms can turn on the applicable agreement and your organization’s facts. If the decision carries material legal or procurement exposure, review the current terms and any signed order with qualified counsel rather than relying on a general summary.
