Polygon Labs completed its acquisition of Coinme on October 14, 2026, adding regulated U.S. money movement to Polygon Open Money Stack. Polygon says the resulting payments business covers 48 states through 37 money-transmitter licenses and 11 applicable exemptions, while Coinme continues operating as a wholly owned Polygon subsidiary.
What Polygon’s Coinme acquisition changes
The completed transaction gives Polygon a regulated fiat entry and exit layer for its Open Money Stack (OMS), a business-to-business platform designed to connect bank, card and cash funding with onchain transfers, stablecoin settlement and recipient payouts.

Coinme contributes the regulated exchange and wallet infrastructure behind that effort, along with enterprise application programming interfaces (APIs), Crypto-as-a-Service capabilities and a retail network exceeding 50,000 locations. Polygon’s stated objective is to let a payments company manage a complete money flow through one integration instead of assembling separate providers for funding, wallets, blockchain routing, banking and payouts.
Coinme remains a wholly owned Polygon subsidiary and continues to operate its regulated exchange, wallet and Crypto-as-a-Service platform. Polygon announced the completion on October 14, 2026; it had announced definitive agreements to acquire Coinme and Sequence on January 13, 2026, describing the combined transaction as worth more than $250 million.

The 48-state regulatory footprint
Polygon says its U.S. payments business now has coverage across 48 states, consisting of:
- 37 state money-transmitter licenses
- 11 applicable exemptions
- Registration with the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) as a money-services business
“Coverage across 48 states” describes the combined license-and-exemption footprint. It does not mean every product or transaction has identical permissions in each state. Money-transmitter rules, permitted activities, consumer-protection requirements and exemption conditions can differ by jurisdiction, so an enterprise integrating OMS still needs a state-by-state compliance review for its specific flow.

What Coinme brings to Open Money Stack
| Capability | Role in the stack |
|---|---|
| Fiat on- and off-ramps | Lets users and businesses move between local currency and digital assets through regulated channels. |
| Licensed wallet infrastructure | Provides wallet functionality and custody-related infrastructure for supported payment flows. |
| Enterprise APIs | Allows businesses to embed funding, wallet and transaction functions in their own products. |
| Crypto-as-a-Service | Supports companies that want digital-asset functionality without building the entire regulated operating layer themselves. |
| Retail distribution | Connects the service to more than 50,000 locations, including networks used by Coinme partners. |
Coinme says it evolved from an early licensed Bitcoin ATM operator into infrastructure serving more than 50,000 retail locations. Its partners have included Coinstar and MoneyGram, and the company reported more than $1 billion in transaction volume during 2024. That figure is Coinme’s reported 2024 volume, not a forecast for Polygon’s combined business.
How Open Money Stack is intended to work
Polygon describes OMS as a single integration spanning the major stages of a payment:
Rank #3
- Proven security at scale: Over 9 years and millions of cards issued with no known remote hacks, while military‑grade EAL6+ security keeps your private keys locked inside the chip. Your cryptocurrencies stay strongly protected from online attackers.
- Tap once to manage your entire crypto wallet across 90 blockchains - no USB cables or Bluetooth, no batteries, no setup. Access 14,100+ coins & tokens, DeFi, NFTs, and staking instantly from your phone
- Smart backup: Use your second Tangem Wallet as your Backup keys with end‑to‑end encryption; no more papers, pictures. If one card is lost, the remaining can still restore full access, with an optional seed phrase available for advanced users.
- Engineered to last up to 25 years: Waterproof (IP69K), shockproof and tested for extreme temperatures from −25°C to 50°C. A durable cold wallet with long‑term protection and independently audited security.
- Trusted by 6 million users worldwide - buy, sell, swap, stake, and spend cryptocurrency directly. The secure offline storage wallet designed for how people actually use crypto wallets
- Funding: dollars enter through a bank account, card or cash-deposit channel.
- Account and wallet management: the platform connects customer accounts and digital wallets.
- Routing: cross-chain payment orchestration selects the required blockchain path when assets move between networks.
- Settlement: stablecoins can be used for fast, predictable onchain settlement.
- Banking and payout: funds are connected to banking infrastructure and delivered to recipients through local or other supported payout rails.
The practical proposition is coordination: a payments team can combine fiat conversion, wallet operations, blockchain movement and delivery without separately integrating each layer. Polygon CEO Marc Boiron described the Coinme completion as bringing “regulated U.S. money movement into Open Money Stack,” covering the path from incoming funds to payment of the recipient.
Early customers and their use cases
| Customer | Use of OMS | Scale or coverage stated |
|---|---|---|
| Tazapay | Cross-border business payments that connect stablecoins with local currency while retaining local and SWIFT rails. | Specific transaction volume was not stated. |
| Mesh | Adding Polygon OMS on-ramps to its network of wallets, exchanges and financial services. | More than 300 connected organizations in the network. |
| Toku | Stablecoin-linked global payroll and local-currency payouts. | Operations in more than 100 countries. |
| Kira | Expanding stablecoin options for customers accessing U.S. bank accounts and payment channels. | Specific customer or transaction counts were not stated. |
Tazapay co-founder and CEO Rahul Shinghal said the platform offers a more direct route between stablecoins and local currency, reducing handoffs in the corridors its customers use. The company’s implementation keeps local and SWIFT rails available rather than requiring every payment to move entirely onchain.

Acquisition timeline
| Date | Event |
|---|---|
| January 13, 2026 | Polygon announced definitive agreements to acquire Coinme and Sequence, describing the combined deal as exceeding $250 million and positioning both acquisitions as the foundation of Open Money Stack. |
| October 14, 2026 | Polygon announced that the Coinme acquisition had completed and that regulated U.S. money movement was now part of OMS. |
The October announcement confirms Coinme’s closing. It does not, by itself, establish that every element of the separate Sequence transaction closed on the same date.

Not according to the availability information reported on October 14, 2026. OMS components were operating, but the unified integration remained in technical preview for selected customers. The acquisition is therefore complete while broad general availability of the single integrated product remains unestablished.

- Works seamlessly with Android, iOS and desktop: Connect wirelessly or via USB-C to your phone or computer. Manage your crypto anywhere with our companion Trezor Suite app.
That distinction matters to prospective adopters. A company may be able to use individual Coinme or Polygon capabilities, or participate as an early customer, without having access to a generally available, one-integration product with every advertised rail. Enterprises should confirm eligibility, supported states, asset and currency coverage, API status, service-level terms and onboarding requirements directly with Polygon before planning a production launch.
What the deal means for payments companies
- More control over fiat connectivity: Polygon can offer regulated U.S. entry and exit points instead of relying only on external ramp providers.
- A broader integration surface: Wallets, cross-chain routing, stablecoin settlement, banking and payouts are being presented as parts of one platform.
- Compliance is still jurisdiction-specific: The 48-state figure combines licenses and exemptions, so product permissions must be mapped to each state and use case.
- Distribution beyond crypto-native apps: Coinme’s retail footprint and enterprise APIs create both in-person and embedded channels.
- Early-stage product risk: The unified OMS integration was still in technical preview, meaning integration scope and availability could change before a general release.
For businesses evaluating a stablecoin payments platform, the relevant comparison points are regulatory model, fiat on- and off-ramp reach, wallet and custody functions, cross-chain routing, settlement and payout rails, geographic availability, customer maturity and whether the integrated product is generally available or still in preview.
