If you want both in a physical copy, The Pokémon Company has announced a Switch 2 Edition + Mega Dimension bundle for October 29, 2026, with the game and DLC on one card. Existing Switch-game owners can instead keep their base game and buy the Switch 2 Edition Upgrade Pack.
What each Pokémon Legends: Z-A version includes
| Purchase route | What you get | Important distinction |
|---|---|---|
| Nintendo Switch base game | The base game, available physically or digitally. | It is the standard Switch version. Owners can later add the Switch 2 Edition Upgrade Pack. The Pokémon Company’s game site describes the upgrade route. |
| Nintendo Switch 2 Edition | The base game in its Switch 2 Edition. | It does not include Mega Dimension; Nintendo lists that DLC separately. On Switch 2, Nintendo describes improved performance, enhanced resolution, and smoother frame rates. It is playable on the original Switch, but without Switch 2-specific features. Nintendo’s product listing provides the edition details. |
| Switch game + Switch 2 Edition Upgrade Pack | Your existing Switch base game plus the Switch 2 Edition upgrade. | A copy of the base game must be available on the Switch 2 system, either as a physical game card or virtual game card. The upgrade supports owners of physical or digital Switch software. See Nintendo Support’s Upgrade Pack and DLC information. |
| Mega Dimension DLC | Additional story content, Mega Stones for Mega Raichu X and Mega Raichu Y, and Holo-X and Holo-Y apparel items. | Sold separately; compatible with the Switch and Switch 2 Edition base games. The full base game is required. Nintendo Support lists the DLC contents and compatibility. |
| Switch 2 Edition + Mega Dimension physical bundle | The Switch 2 Edition and Mega Dimension DLC on one game card. | Announced for October 29, 2026. The Pokémon Company says its content is the same as buying the Switch 2 Edition and DLC separately. It also includes a 100 Ultra Ball serial-code bonus. The official announcement gives the bundle details. |

Does the Switch 2 Edition include Mega Dimension?
No. The regular Switch 2 Edition is the base game, and the DLC is sold separately. To get both, buy the Switch 2 Edition and Mega Dimension separately, or choose the announced physical bundle when it releases. The bundle puts both on one card; it is not the same product as the regular Switch 2 Edition.
Which version should you choose?
You play on Nintendo Switch 2 and want the enhanced version
Choose the Switch 2 Edition if you do not already own the Switch game. Nintendo describes its Switch 2 improvements as better performance, enhanced resolution, and smoother frame rates. Mega Dimension remains a separate purchase unless you choose the physical bundle.
#1 Best Overall
- Venture into Hyperspace Lumiose in this additional story content that can be accessed after completing the main game
- Work with the mysterious baker, Ansha, to make donuts that awaken the Mythical Pokémon Hoopa’s power and grant you and your Pokémon a variety of useful effects
- Join Team MZ and the Mega Evolution Successor, Korrina, to investigate Hyperspace Lumiose, the otherworldly home to rare and hyper-strong Pokémon
- Discover new Mega Evolutions such as Mega Raichu X, Mega Raichu Y, Mega Chimecho and Mega Baxcalibur
- Claim Holo-X and Holo-Y in-game apparel items, which you can wear as soon as you are able to customize your character’s look and outfit in the main game
You already own the Switch game
Keep access to that base game and buy the Switch 2 Edition Upgrade Pack to upgrade. Nintendo says a base-game copy must be available on the Switch 2 system—either as a physical game card or virtual game card—so the upgrade pack alone is not a complete game.
You play on the original Nintendo Switch
The Switch 2 Edition can be played on the original Switch, but it has the same content as the Switch software there and does not use Switch 2-specific features. If you are choosing only for an original Switch, the Switch 2 improvements do not apply.

The announced physical bundle has a 100 Ultra Ball serial-code bonus. This is separate from the earlier 100 Poké Ball offer.
