To Dynamax in Pokémon GO, bring an eligible Max Pokémon into a Max Battle, fill the Max Meter by attacking, then use its three-turn Dynamax phase. You can get your first Max Pokémon through the “To the Max!” Special Research or by defeating a boss at a Power Spot. Max Particles let you enter battles and train Max Moves.
How to get a Dynamax Pokémon

How to find and join a Max Battle
Power Spots appear on the map and in the Nearby menu. Their locations and availability can change. Nearby can show a spot’s Pokémon, battle difficulty, remaining time, distance, and whether other Trainers are waiting, so check the game for what is currently available near you. - Spend the displayed Max Particle cost to enter. The cost varies with the boss’s strength.
- Choose a party of three Pokémon. At least one must be a Max Pokémon; only Dynamax or Gigantamax Pokémon can participate.
- Battle alone or with others. A standard Max Battle can include up to four Trainers.
Max Particles are collected by tapping the bubbles at Power Spots or by exploring, including with Adventure Sync. The Help Center lists a limit of 800 collected per day and 1,500 held in the Item Bag (page accessed 2026); these are game limits and may change. How to trigger Dynamax during battle
- Use Fast Attacks, Charged Attacks, and dodges against the boss. Attacking fills the Max Meter at the top of the battle screen.
- When energy appears in the arena, swipe toward it to fill the meter faster.
- When the meter is full, your Max Pokémon Dynamaxes for three turns. Use its Max Moves during this phase.
Max Particles are only spent after you defeat the boss. If you lose, you can rejoin before the Power Spot closes without paying the entry cost again. Victory awards items and an encounter that gives you a chance to catch the boss. Afterward, you can leave one of your battle-party Pokémon at the spot; it can earn Candy and help future challengers with a damage bonus. Pokémon GO Help Center: Max Battles
What Max Moves do
A Max Pokémon can use Attack, Max Guard, and Max Spirit. Attack is a powerful charged move whose type depends on the Pokémon’s Fast Attack. Max Guard reduces damage, while Max Spirit restores some HP to the user and its allies. You can train Max Moves using Candy and Max Particles. Dynamax and Gigantamax: what changes?

Where Dynamax works—and where it does not
Dynamax is a Max Battle feature. A Max Pokémon may appear in its ordinary form in other parts of the game, and Niantic says you cannot Dynamax or use Max Moves in Trainer Battles. Pokémon GO Help Center: Dynamax and Gigantamax Pokémon
