Premium is worth the higher price if you specifically want RPGs in the Classics Catalog, plan to use game trials or cloud streaming, or value its other added benefits. Check the games and prices available in your region before subscribing.
What do Extra and Premium include?
On PlayStation’s US plan comparison, Extra and Premium both include the Game Catalog and Ubisoft+ Classics, along with shared benefits such as monthly games, online multiplayer, cloud storage, Share Play, discounts, and exclusive content. Premium includes everything in Essential and Extra, then adds the Classics Catalog, Game Trials, cloud streaming, and the Sony Pictures Catalog. PlayStation’s US plan comparison describes the benefits and notes that new catalogue titles are added regularly.

For an RPG player, the key distinction is not that Premium has a larger version of the shared Game Catalog; it is whether the Premium-only catalogue and features are useful to you.

What does Premium add for RPG players?
Classics Catalog
Premium’s Classics Catalog is the most direct reason an RPG fan might upgrade: it is separate from the Game Catalog and may include older games you cannot find in the shared catalogue. The official PlayStation game finder has separate filters for the Game Catalog and Classics Catalog, as well as an RPG genre filter. Catalogues vary by region and change over time, so search the catalogue attached to your account for specific titles rather than relying on a general list.

- Includes DualSense Wireless Controller, 1TB SSD, 2 Horizontal Stand Feet, HDMI Cable, AC power cord, USB cable, printed materials, ASTRO’s PLAYROOM (Pre-installed game)

Game trials
Premium offers limited-time trials for select games. A trial can help you decide whether a game is right for you before buying it, but trial availability is title-specific; it is not a guarantee that every RPG has a trial.
Cloud streaming
Premium also includes cloud streaming where supported. PlayStation states that cloud streaming requires at least 5 Mbps, or 15 Mbps for 1080p. Availability depends on territory and content, and some content and territories are excluded. If you prefer to download and play RPGs locally, this feature may not add much value.

How much more does Premium cost?
PlayStation’s US pricing page displayed the following prices when accessed in 2026. They are US prices, not a universal price list; check your account and local PlayStation page for current prices and available subscription terms.
| Billing term | Extra (US) | Premium (US) | Premium difference |
|---|---|---|---|
| Monthly | $16.99 | $19.99 | $3.00 per month |
| Three months | $43.99 | $54.99 | $11.00 per three months |
| Twelve months | $134.99 | $159.99 | $25.00 per twelve months |
These displayed prices make the decision a question of whether Premium’s additional benefits are worth the difference to you—not whether it unlocks the shared Game Catalog. Pricing and available terms can differ by region and may change.

How to choose the right tier for your RPG backlog
- Start with the games you actually plan to play. Use the RPG filter in the official game finder and check the Game Catalog for your region. Both Extra and Premium include it.
- Look for specific classics you want. Switch to the Classics Catalog filter and confirm that the titles you care about are available to your account. Premium is more compelling if those games are a meaningful part of your backlog.
- Decide whether you will use the extras. Consider whether game trials or cloud streaming fit how you play. Streaming has the minimum speed requirements noted above and is not available for every title or territory.
- Compare the local price difference with those benefits. If the shared Game Catalog covers your plans and you do not need the Premium extras, choose Extra. If you will regularly use Premium’s classic games, trials, or streaming, the upgrade may justify its added cost.
- Recheck before subscribing. Catalogue titles and eligibility change. PlayStation says new titles are added regularly and that PS4 games will be added only intermittently from January 2026.
Which tier has the RPGs you want to play?
There is no single answer across all players: the catalogue depends on your region and can change. PlayStation’s game finder lets you filter by RPG and by catalogue, but it does not establish one complete, fixed RPG inventory for every country. Verify the specific games you want in your local catalogue before choosing a tier.
