To use PlanGrid for blueprints, a project administrator uploads the drawing PDFs, organizes them in the right version set, checks sheet numbers and titles, and publishes the set. Field users then sync the project and use the sheets and markups to share instructions or questions. PlanGrid is no longer available for purchase by new customers, but Autodesk documents continued access for existing users through its web tools and the Autodesk Forma mobile app.
Before you start: PlanGrid access and what you need
PlanGrid is Autodesk construction software for project drawings and field information. Autodesk says it is no longer available for purchase by net-new customers and directs those customers to Forma Build. Existing PlanGrid users can log in on the web and access projects on mobile through the Autodesk Forma app. Check Autodesk’s PlanGrid product page for current access and availability details.

- For uploading: drawing sheets in PDF format and an account with administrator upload access.
- For field viewing: access to the project and a supported way to open it. Autodesk documents iOS and Android access through the Forma app, as well as web access; verify current compatibility for your device.
- For a fresh subscription: PlanGrid may not be an option for a new customer. Check Forma Build instead of assuming you can start a new PlanGrid project.
A tablet or other mobile device can be convenient for viewing drawings in the field, but Autodesk’s product information does not make a particular device or accessory a requirement.

Use a distinct version set for each drawing issue so the team can tell which set is intended for field use. Autodesk’s detailed upload instructions date from 2019, so the exact screen labels may differ in the current interface; the PDF, version-set, review, and publish steps remain the documented workflow.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Prepare the PDFs. Gather the drawing sheets as PDF files. An administrator with upload access should perform the upload.
- Start a sheet upload and select the issue. Choose an existing version set or create a new one with the issue information. Keep the set name clear enough that users can identify the intended drawing issue.
- Review sheet numbers and titles. During upload, inspect the extracted sheet numbers and titles and correct errors before publishing. The 2019 support walkthrough describes using extraction areas to identify this information; do not assume the current interface uses identical controls.
- Apply project tags, if used. Check the tags associated with the sheets so they fit the project’s organization and retrieval needs.
- Publish the set. Publishing makes the sheets available to team members after they sync their devices. Autodesk’s support guidance also describes email notifications when new sheets are published.
Autodesk’s step-by-step instructions are in Upload sheets. Because that article is from 2019, use it for the workflow concepts rather than as a guarantee of today’s exact buttons or layout.
How field users open the current sheets
After publication, team members need to sync the project on their device before relying on the new drawing set. Autodesk says existing PlanGrid users access projects on mobile through the Autodesk Forma app on iOS and Android. Web access is also listed on Autodesk’s product page. A Windows desktop app is mentioned there as well, but check current compatibility and availability before planning around a specific operating system.

- Open the project using the Autodesk access method available to your account.
- Sync the project so newly published sheets are available locally.
- Open the intended version set and confirm the sheet issue before using it for field work.
If a sheet appears to be missing or outdated, first confirm that the administrator published the intended version set and then sync again. Do not assume that opening a project automatically refreshes every device.

How to communicate with sheet markups
Use markups to attach field communication to the drawing itself—for example, installation instructions, a measurement question, or a note that points to another sheet or file. Autodesk documents sheet markups on the web and in the Forma mobile app. Keep each markup clear and tied to the relevant location so project teammates can understand what needs attention.

If your team is transitioning to Forma Build, Autodesk documents a Forma Data Management process that imports PlanGrid project data and then transitions it to an active project. The documented data categories include files, models, issues, and project settings. The process page does not promise that every item transfers without exceptions, so review the transition report and confirm that the project information your team needs is present before relying on the new project.
