Two Android Authority staff members say their Pixel phones would not pair with their ASUS Googlebook 14 devices, and factory resets did not fix the problem. The account, published October 8, 2026, describes a limited set of devices—not evidence of a Pixel-wide or Chromebook-wide defect—and does not establish a confirmed fix.
What the reported pairing problem involves
In an October 8, 2026 report, Android Authority described two staff members unable to pair Pixel phones with ASUS Googlebook 14 devices. Fady A. Samy wrote, “Colleague Paul Jones and I are both unable to pair our Pixel phones with our Googlebooks.” Read the report.

The devices named were Samy’s Pixel 9 Pro XL and Paul Jones’s Pixel 11 Pro XL and Pixel 11 Pro Fold. The phones were described as running stable Android 17; both Googlebooks were on software version 17.CL3B.260622.271.R1. These examples identify the reported setup, but do not establish how many other users are affected.
What has—and has not—been tried
Factory resets did not resolve this incident
The staff members reportedly factory-reset their Googlebooks without restoring pairing. A reset therefore should not be treated as a known remedy for this specific failure, and repeating it may erase local data without helping.

A system-services update is only a suggestion
The report mentions updating Googlebook system services as a possible solution, but does not document an update that succeeded or provide a verified procedure. It is not a confirmed fix. Follow current instructions from Google or ASUS if they publish guidance for your exact device and software version.
How broadly is the issue affecting users?
The report also mentions Reddit users describing similar trouble, but gives too little detail to determine how many people are affected or whether their devices and symptoms match. It does not establish a root cause, an official Google or ASUS acknowledgement, a measured failure rate, or a confirmed resolution. The available account is a report of individual cases, not proof of a platform-wide defect.

If your Pixel will not pair with a Googlebook, record the phone model, Android version, Googlebook model and software version, along with the exact pairing error and when it occurs. That information can help support teams distinguish a matching incident from a different connection problem. Avoid assuming that a factory reset or an unverified service update will solve it.
