PITAKA’s Classic aramid cases are best for Galaxy Z8 owners who want a light, slim shell for scratch protection and magnetic accessories—not for people seeking full coverage or strong drop cushioning. The Fold8 case leaves both the hinge and front screen without case protection; the tested cases for Fold8 Ultra and Flip8 also leave the hinge exposed. Fit is model-specific, so choose the case made for your exact foldable.
What the PITAKA Galaxy Z8 cases are—and which models they fit
The Classic cases reviewed by Notebookcheck are thin, two-piece aramid-fiber shells made for the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8, Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, and Galaxy Z Flip8. They are separate, device-specific products, not interchangeable versions of one case. Check the exact phone name before ordering.

How thin and light are the cases?
The measurements differ slightly by source and model. Notebookcheck measured the tested cases; PITAKA’s product page publishes its own figures for the Fold8 Edge case. They should not be treated as a single measurement set.

The figures make the main appeal clear: the cases add little bulk. Notebookcheck described the Fold8 shell as precisely fitted, with accurate cutouts and optional pre-applied adhesive strips. Its reviewer also found that the folding mechanism worked normally in both open and closed positions.
What protection do they provide?
Fold8 and Fold8 Ultra: back and camera area, not the hinge or front screen
On the Fold8, the case covers the camera-side rear but does not include a front frame or screen cover. PITAKA’s product FAQ confirms that its Galaxy Z Fold7 and Fold8 cases cover only the camera-side back and do not cover the screen. A slightly raised edge around the rear camera area offers some protection around the lenses, but the hinge remains exposed. PITAKA says individual circular lens protectors are compatible; full lens caps are not.

Notebookcheck also found that the Fold8 Ultra case leaves the hinge unobstructed. The available Fold8 product information does not establish that these cases provide full-device or hinge protection.
Flip8: shell around the exterior, hinge still exposed
The Flip8 case is a two-piece shell that frames the external display and lenses. It also leaves the hinge unobstructed, so it does not provide complete exterior coverage.

Light knocks versus serious drops
Notebookcheck judged the cases useful against scratches and light impacts, but said the thin walls provide little cushioning for a high drop onto hard concrete. Schmidt’s review conclusion was: “Due to their design, the cases offer only minimal drop protection.” If avoiding damage from a serious fall is your priority, a thicker case is the more relevant design direction, though thickness alone is not proof of a particular drop-test result.
Do the magnets work with MagSafe and other accessories?
Notebookcheck found that the cases’ discreet magnet ring supports MagSafe- and PixelSnap-compatible accessories. Compatibility is not universal, however, and the manufacturer’s accessory-specific guidance matters.

- MagEZ Grip and MagEZ Car Mount Pro 2 Qi2: PITAKA lists these as compatible.
- Magnetic power banks: PITAKA says they may charge through the case, but camera interference can weaken the magnetic hold or partially obstruct the camera area.
- Magnetic Woven Wallet: PITAKA says it is not compatible.
Before relying on a magnetic accessory, check its compatibility with the exact case and phone configuration rather than assuming that a magnet ring guarantees a secure fit.

How does the Edge compare with PITAKA’s Cairn case?
PITAKA’s Fold8 collection positions Edge as its thinner, lighter daily-protection option and Cairn as a more protective design. The collection page gives approximate measurements of 25 g (±4 g) and 1.2 mm (±0.2 mm) for Edge, and 44 g (±1 g) and 1.9 mm (±0.2 mm) for Cairn. PITAKA cautions that those figures come from lab testing of an S26 Ultra case and may vary by model; they are not Fold8 measurements.

This is a design tradeoff, not independent proof that Cairn will withstand a specific drop. In general, the thicker construction is the direction to consider if you value more coverage and cushioning over the minimum added bulk.
What does the PITAKA case cost?
PITAKA’s product page listed the Fold8 Edge case at $69.99 when accessed in 2026. Notebookcheck cited a suggested retail price of around €80 and displayed a $52.49 Amazon listing for the Fold8 Ultra case when its review was accessed. These are source-specific historical price points, not guaranteed current prices; availability, listings, and prices can change.
At that premium, the case makes the strongest case for itself through low weight, a slim profile, finish, and magnetic accessory support. Its limited coverage is a significant tradeoff if you expect a case to protect the screen or hinge, or to cushion a hard fall.
Which PITAKA Galaxy Z8 case should you choose?
- Choose the model-matched Classic or Edge case if keeping the phone slim and light is more important than full coverage, and you mainly want scratch and light-impact protection.
- Look for a different, thicker case if hinge coverage or better cushioning in a drop is a priority. PITAKA announced a wider modular protection system for Fold8, Fold8 Ultra, and Flip8 on 23 July 2026, describing back-case, hinge, front-case, and Aaron Button elements. That announcement is not independent testing; PITAKA’s current FAQ describes front-cover and hinge-protective Fold8 cases as possibilities for the future, not established available products.
- Add a separate screen protector if needed for a Fold8 front display, since the back case does not cover it. Confirm that any protector is designed for your exact model.
- Check accessory fit before buying if you plan to use a magnetic wallet, grip, mount, or power bank; some accessories are expressly excluded or have camera-related caveats.
