How the displays compare
The Redmi’s listed refresh rate reaches 120 Hz, compared with 90 Hz for the Galaxy A17. A higher refresh-rate specification can support smoother-looking scrolling and motion, but it is not an independent measurement of brightness, responsiveness or overall display quality.

Samsung lists optical image stabilization (OIS) for the A17’s rear camera. OIS helps compensate for camera movement, which can be useful when taking handheld photos or video. Samsung also lists three rear cameras, versus two on the Redmi. Xiaomi specifies 4K recording at 30 frames per second for the Redmi; the available specifications do not establish an equivalent Samsung recording figure or which phone takes better photos overall.

Battery size, charging and what the numbers mean
The Redmi’s stated typical battery capacity is 5,800 mAh, compared with 5,000 mAh for the A17. Xiaomi lists 45 W charging and an adapter in the India package contents. Samsung’s page lists up to 18 hours of video playback, but no included-charger claim was captured. Capacity, rated charging speed and a manufacturer playback figure do not prove which phone will last longer or charge faster in everyday use.
Protection ratings are not waterproofing guarantees
Samsung lists IP54, while Xiaomi lists IP65 and IP66 under laboratory conditions. These ratings describe tested resistance; neither makes a phone waterproof. Samsung cautions that protection is not permanent and advises against beach or pool use. Xiaomi says test conditions differ from normal use, protection may degrade, and liquid damage outside testing conditions is excluded from warranty coverage.

Storage expansion and SIM trade-offs
The A17 supports microSD cards up to 2 TB according to Samsung’s India specification page; Xiaomi lists expansion up to 1 TB. Both phones use a hybrid SIM arrangement, so using a memory card may mean giving up the secondary SIM position. Check the exact variant and tray configuration before buying if you need two SIMs and expandable storage together.

Software support: generations and years are different measures
Samsung states six generations of OS upgrades and six years of security updates, counted from the phone’s first global launch date. Xiaomi’s product page advertises four years of OS updates and six years of security patches. “Generations” and “years” are not perfectly interchangeable measures, so these promises should be compared as stated rather than treated as identical timelines.

India price difference and how to read it
The manufacturer storefront snapshots accessed in 2026 list the Galaxy A17 5G at ₹26,999 for the 6 GB/128 GB model, with ₹32,999 MRP shown. Xiaomi’s catalogue lists the Redmi Note 15 SE 5G from ₹25,999, with a ₹34,999 marketing price shown. The visible gap is ₹1,000, but Xiaomi’s is a starting price and the matching configuration was not verified. These figures are not a confirmed like-for-like checkout comparison; check current stock, variant and final price before purchasing.

- Consider the Galaxy A17 5G if OIS, a three-camera rear array, microSD expansion up to 2 TB, or Samsung’s stated six generations of OS upgrades matter more to you.
No independent tests in the available material establish a winner for gaming, overall speed, photography or battery endurance. Treat those as open questions rather than inferring results from specifications alone.
