pipeflow 0.4.0 is an R package for building interactive data-analysis pipelines from functions. The CRAN release was published on September 27, 2026, and requires R 4.2.0 or later. Its main change is a broader pipeline-object API, alongside expanded ways to collect and inspect pipeline outputs.

What pipeflow does

pipeflow turns R functions into steps in a data-analysis pipeline. You can insert, remove, or modify steps as an analysis evolves, while managing parameters centrally. The package describes dependency resolution through a C++-powered directed acyclic graph (DAG) and identifies interactive analysis and Shiny backends as intended use contexts. These are the project’s stated design features, not an independently verified speed comparison.

The approach may suit R users who need to revise an analysis interactively rather than define a fixed sequence of steps once. Documented capabilities include checking a pipeline as it is defined, filtering steps with views, branching and merging, and composing nested or split/map/reduce workflows. See the reference manual for package and API details.

What changed in version 0.4.0

The release expands both the way users operate on a pipeline and the ways they retrieve its structure and results.

Pipeline operations and editing

  • Common operations, including adding steps, running a pipeline, and setting parameters, can now be called as methods on the pipeline object.
  • Extraction and replacement support two-index access, negative row indices, and data.table-style Boolean filters.
  • Steps can be assigned across pipelines to copy them, or removed by assigning NULL.
  • The release adds timestamps and supports setting or replacing views.

Collecting and inspecting results

  • pip_collect() replaces the former pip_collect_out() name and adds grouping through by, compact table output with as.table = TRUE, and control over flattening single-step groups with simplify.
  • pip_data() provides direct access to the pipeline’s underlying step table.
  • pip_graph() returns graph data compatible with visNetwork. The previous names pip_collect_out() and pip_get_graph() remain available as deprecated aliases.
