Physint is not a new Metal Gear Solid game. Kojima Productions describes it as a new action-espionage IP, and Hideo Kojima says he wants new ideas and a different kind of spy action. That gives fans a clear reason to compare the two—but not enough public detail to compare their mechanics, missions, or stories yet.
Is Physint a new Metal Gear Solid?
No. Kojima Productions announced Physint in January 2024 as a brand-new action-espionage game, not as an entry in the Metal Gear series. Kojima later said he wanted to make something new with his own intellectual property after fans repeatedly asked him to make another Metal Gear. The two projects share a creator and an espionage focus, but the announcements do not establish shared characters, story continuity, or franchise rights. What could make Physint different?
A new property, rather than Metal Gear continuity

Kojima has described the genre overlap directly while stressing a different creative direction. In a Koji10 podcast comment reported by GamesRadar in October 2026, he said: “It’s about spies, but I want plenty of new ideas and a different kind of spy action. A film-and-game presentation ambition
Kojima Productions has framed Physint as an interactive game with an unusually broad film-related ambition. Kojima said it would also be a movie in terms of “look, story, theme, cast, acting, fashion, and sound,” and that he hopes it can transcend barriers between film and video games. What is known about Physint so far?
The available announcements establish the project’s broad genre, creative aims, partner, and some casting—not how it plays. In September 2026, Kojima Productions named Xbox as its new publishing partner and announced Bill Skarsgård as lead performer, alongside Charlee Fraser, Don Lee, and Minami Hamabe. GamesRadar reported in October 2026 that Kojima said the story was written but the script was unfinished. That does not reveal the plot or setting.
