Phones with an IR blaster can send infrared commands to compatible TVs, air conditioners and sound systems. Manufacturer documentation confirms the feature on the Xiaomi REDMI Note 14 5G, REDMI Note 15 (on Xiaomi’s UAE page), POCO F4 and REDMI Note 14 (4G, on Xiaomi Australia’s page). This is a verified sample, not a complete list of every phone available in October 2026.
What an IR blaster does
An IR blaster is a hardware emitter that sends infrared light signals, much like a conventional remote control. Xiaomi describes the component on its REDMI Note 14 5G support page and names TVs, air conditioners and sound systems as possible targets. It is not a Wi-Fi or Bluetooth connection, and having the emitter does not guarantee that a phone can control every device.

To use a phone as a remote, you need both the IR hardware and an app with commands compatible with the device you want to control. Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G user guide describes Mi Remote as working with the phone’s IR blaster port; that does not establish that the app supports every appliance model or every function.

How to check a phone before buying
- Match the exact model and market. Look up the full model name and regional variant on the manufacturer’s local product or support page. Do not assume that every phone in a product family has the same hardware.
- Confirm the hardware in the specifications. Look specifically for “IR blaster” or an equivalent manufacturer statement. A remote-control app by itself does not prove that the phone has an infrared emitter.
- Check your target device in the remote app. Search the app’s device list for your TV, air conditioner or other equipment. The cited specifications confirm the phone feature, not compatibility with a particular appliance or every control.
- Assess the purchase on its other requirements. Check local availability, warranty and price, along with network bands, storage, battery and software support. The manufacturer listings above do not establish a best-value ranking or current comparative prices.
Using the phone as a remote
Install or open a compatible remote app, choose the type and brand of equipment, then follow the app’s pairing or code-testing steps. Xiaomi’s user guide says Mi Remote works with the phone’s IR blaster port, but the available documentation does not guarantee a particular device model will appear in the app or that every control will work. Test the functions you need before relying on the phone as your only remote.

Specifications and availability can vary by region and variant. Xiaomi’s REDMI Note 15 page explicitly cautions that product information may differ by model and region; the REDMI Note 14 examples also come from distinct regional pages. Check the listing for the precise phone being sold in your market rather than inferring the feature from a similar name or a page for another country.
