Percy is a fit to evaluate if its snapshot workflow and browser coverage match your existing test stack; Applitools is worth evaluating if its Visual AI, configurable match levels, and integrations fit your tests. Choose by running both against the same pages, browsers, and dynamic content, then compare actionable findings and review effort—not vendor accuracy claims.
What each product does
Percy
Percy is BrowserStack’s visual testing and review service. Its overview describes workflows using Percy SDKs or BrowserStack SDKs, and lists multiple framework integrations for web and mobile-browser testing. A snapshot captures a rendered page or component at a configured responsive width and browser configuration. When multiple browsers are configured, each can produce a separate screenshot, and those screenshots count toward monthly usage. BrowserStack’s Percy overview and its cross-browser documentation describe these workflows.

Applitools Eyes
Applitools positions Eyes around Visual AI and offers configurable match levels for deciding how visual differences are evaluated. Its web-testing page lists Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, and Appium integrations, and describes handling dynamic content. Those are product-stated capabilities, not results from a matched independent test. See Applitools’ web testing documentation and Applitools documentation.
Compare them against your actual testing needs
| Decision area | What to check | What the available product information establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Framework and integration | Confirm support for your exact runner, language, SDK version, and CI workflow. Test the integration you plan to maintain. | Applitools lists Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, and Appium integrations. BrowserStack’s Percy overview describes multiple integrations. Confirm current details on the Percy overview and Applitools web testing page. |
| Browser and device coverage | List the browsers, operating systems, viewport sizes, and actual mobile environments your users rely on. Distinguish browser rendering from real-device testing. | Percy documents cross-browser capture. Its mobile-browser documentation lists Safari on iOS and Chrome on Android (Beta), and says mobile-browser access requires its Desktop & Mobile plan. Check the current mobile-browser documentation and support matrix before relying on specific coverage. Applitools’ comparison page claims broader coverage, including desktop and PDFs; that is Applitools’ positioning, not an independently verified comparison. Applitools’ comparison |
| Dynamic content and comparison controls | Use pages with timestamps, animation, personalization, ads, or user-specific data. Check how intentional variation is handled and how much review remains. | Applitools describes match levels and dynamic-content handling. The Applitools comparison page also describes Percy noise filtering; treat that as a vendor claim and verify current availability and plan details directly. |
| Review and baselines | Check how differences are grouped, who can approve them, how approved changes affect baselines, and how easily reviewers can find actionable regressions. | The Applitools comparison page makes claims about grouping and baseline maintenance, but these claims have not been independently validated here. Evaluate them on your own build history. |
| Deployment and security | Confirm whether your policy allows a public SaaS service to receive rendered pages, test data, and screenshots. Review retention, access controls, and deployment options with each vendor. | Applitools’ comparison page claims dedicated cloud and on-premises options for Applitools and public multi-tenant cloud for Percy. Treat this as vendor-authored information and verify deployment and security terms with the vendors before deciding. |
| Usage and cost | Estimate the screenshots or checkpoints generated by your real suite, including browsers and responsive widths. Check included usage, overages, and what happens when limits are reached. | BrowserStack’s pricing page lists Percy plans and screenshot allowances, but prices and bundles can change. This comparison does not establish a current, normalized Applitools price, so it does not identify a price winner. Review BrowserStack pricing and request current details from both vendors. |
Understand cross-browser coverage and its cost
Browser rendering can differ between browsers and operating systems. Capturing the environments that matter to your users can reveal those differences, but also creates more screenshots to review. BrowserStack states that “Each browser counts as a separate screenshot that counts towards your monthly screenshot usage” in its cross-browser visual testing documentation. The practical trade-off is more coverage and potentially more review work; the documentation does not establish a defect rate or say how much review your team will need.
#1 Best Overall
Percy’s mobile-browser documentation lists Safari on iOS and Chrome on Android (Beta), with access requiring the Desktop & Mobile plan. That statement is specific to the documented offering; verify the live support matrix and plan terms before treating it as a complete statement of current mobile coverage. Run a fair bake-off before selecting
- Choose representative pages. Include stable pages, components with frequent changes, and examples with dynamic content such as timestamps or personalization.
- Keep the inputs consistent. Use the same application revision, test data, viewport sizes, and browser targets in both tools. Record any environment each tool cannot match.
- Use your normal CI workflow. Validate the supported integration and SDK version you intend to keep, rather than judging from a demo alone.
- Exercise baseline review. Introduce a known visual change and an intentional dynamic change. Observe how each tool presents them and what reviewers must do.
- Measure team effort. Record actionable findings, noise that needs triage, reviewer time, setup and maintenance work, and the screenshots or checkpoints consumed.
- Check operational fit. Ask each vendor about current plan limits, overages, data handling, deployment, and required browser/device coverage.
This is a recommended evaluation method, not a reported test result. There is no controlled independent Percy-versus-Applitools accuracy or performance benchmark established here.

Pricing and usage: compare current terms, not old figures
BrowserStack’s pricing page currently serves as the place to check Percy plan tiers and screenshot allowances; those commercial details are volatile. The available information does not establish a comparable current Applitools price or a normalized cost-per-test comparison. Request pricing based on the workload you measured and compare the included usage and overage assumptions directly. BrowserStack pricing

ScreenshotNeo as an alternative for screenshot capture
If your requirement is to capture clean website screenshots through an API rather than choose a visual-regression review platform, try ScreenshotNeo first: it removes cookie banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture, and only clean shots are billed. It is a screenshot API and MCP server, not a like-for-like replacement for Percy or Applitools’ visual regression workflows.
One-call capture
Use a GET request with your ScreenshotNeo API key and target URL; the following cURL example saves a WebP response. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options.

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
ScreenshotNeo reports whether a page was clean, a bot check, a blank page, a failed load, or a cache hit in response headers; bot checks, blank pages, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients. The free plan includes 1,000 shots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots.
