That closure gives cards and folded cash an enclosed place to ride on the back of a phone. Pelican describes two compartments for cash and cards, with capacity for up to three cards.

Bradley C wrote in 9to5Mac on October 5, 2026 that the wallet is IPX4 water-resistant, and said it suits outdoor activities when weather might change. That rating and the related water-protection claim are the writer’s claims; Pelican’s product listing reviewed here does not confirm an IPX4 rating, and no independent test result is established. Treat it as a reason to investigate the manufacturer’s current specifications, not as a guarantee that the wallet or its contents will stay dry.
Capacity and fit: what the listing establishes
Pelican’s US listing identifies the product as the Protector MagSafe Wallet, SKU PP049004. It lists compatibility with iPhone 12, 13, and 14 series phones and MagSafe cases. The manufacturer says it attaches to a MagSafe-compatible device or case and holds up to three cards across two compartments.

Bradley C also reports carrying folded cash and a small key. That is an account of his use, not a manufacturer-listed capacity specification; Pelican’s page does not state that a key will fit. If you need to carry more than three cards or several everyday items, this is not established as a roomy replacement for a conventional wallet.

Those dimensions and weight are manufacturer-listed specifications. They make the practical tradeoff clear: the wallet brings a closed, hard-shell format, but its 0.47-inch listed thickness is a meaningful consideration if your priority is keeping a phone as slim as possible.

Who should choose it—and who should skip it
It makes sense if
- You carry no more than three cards and want an enclosed, snap-latch design.
- You prefer a hardshell wallet for outdoor days or everyday carry when conditions may change.
- You are comfortable with the listed thickness in exchange for the shell and closure.
Look elsewhere if
- You want the slimmest possible MagSafe wallet or carry more than three cards.
- You need verified water-resistance performance: the available manufacturer listing does not establish an IPX4 rating.
- You need confirmed space for a key or other item beyond cards and cash; only Bradley C’s account supports the small-key use.
Bradley C says he would choose something more minimal in summer, but prefers the Pelican for hiking, football games, and other outdoor outings when the weather might change. That is a useful description of the intended tradeoff, not a universal verdict: choose it for the closure and hard-shell feel, not for maximum capacity or a documented waterproof guarantee.

Pelican’s catalog also lists MagSafe wallets described as RFID, AirTag, and magnetic-clip models. The available product information does not establish enough comparable specifications to rank those models against the Protector on capacity, bulk, closure, water resistance, or price.
