PDFCrowd is a hosted service for converting public webpages, HTML strings, and uploaded HTML files into PDFs. It offers a browser-based converter for one-off jobs as well as an API and website integrations. Its API exposes useful controls for page layout, print styles, scripts, headers and footers, and selecting page content—but the result still depends on whether the source page and its assets can be retrieved and rendered correctly.
There is no current hands-on test behind this review, so it cannot establish conversion speed or output quality across sites. The practical verdict is that PDFCrowd is worth evaluating when you need HTML-to-PDF controls or an integration workflow; test it on your own pages before relying on it in production.

What PDFCrowd does—and which route to use
PDFCrowd converts web content into PDF. The right route depends on who initiates conversion and where the content lives:
- One-time conversion: use the online HTML-to-PDF converter in a browser.
- Application workflow: use the HTTP API to submit a public URL, HTML string, or HTML file.
- Website or automation workflow: PDFCrowd also offers a WordPress plugin, WebSave website buttons, and Zapier and Make integrations.
The service’s homepage describes these product routes at PDFCrowd, and its product overview lists the API and integrations at the API product page.
#1 Best Overall
- Create a mix using audio, music and voice tracks and recordings.
- Customize your tracks with amazing effects and helpful editing tools.
- Use tools like the Beat Maker and Midi Creator.
- Work efficiently by using Bookmarks and tools like Effect Chain, which allow you to apply multiple effects at a time
- Use one of the many other NCH multimedia applications that are integrated with MixPad.
How to evaluate PDF output on your pages
Do not judge a converter only by whether it returns a PDF. Compare the output against the pages you actually need to preserve. PDFCrowd documents controls for page size and margins, headers and footers, custom CSS and JavaScript, wait conditions, print media, and converting a selected page element. It also provides controls for JavaScript, images, remote fonts, iframes, and common ad networks. These settings can help address layout or content issues, but they do not guarantee that every site will render as intended. The available options are listed in the API reference and its parameter documentation.
Check the parts readers rely on
- Confirm the article text, tables, images, and links are present.
- Inspect page breaks, headers, footers, and print styles for clipping or awkward splits.
- Check whether lazy-loaded or script-generated content appears.
- Try print-media styling if the site provides a print-optimized layout.
- Verify the source page and its stylesheets, images, fonts, and other resources are accessible to the converter.
Disabling JavaScript can prevent lazy-loaded images and AJAX content from appearing, so it is not a safe universal fix for rendering problems.

Using the API: inputs, access, and operational limits
The HTTP API uses a versioned endpoint, HTTP Basic authentication with a PDFCrowd username and API key, and form fields rather than a JSON request body. On success, the PDF is returned in the response body. You can submit a URL, HTML string, or uploaded HTML file; supporting local assets can be bundled with an HTML file in an archive. A URL must be reachable from PDFCrowd’s servers. Consult the API guide for the current request syntax and authentication details.

PDFCrowd cannot retrieve a user’s local localhost page by URL. For local content, send the HTML itself or upload the HTML and its supporting assets. For a protected page, distinguish the credentials used to authenticate to PDFCrowd from any credentials, cookies, or custom headers needed to retrieve the source website. A page that is inaccessible to PDFCrowd will not become available just because the API request is authenticated.
Limits that matter in automated workflows
- The API guide documents a maximum upload size of 300 MB.
- Conversion stops server-side if processing exceeds 60 seconds; increasing your client timeout does not extend that server limit.
- Rate and concurrency limits depend on the license.
Check the live API documentation for the limits that apply to your account and workload before designing a queue or bulk process.
Troubleshooting missing or broken content
PDFCrowd’s FAQ specifically addresses missing stylesheets, images, JavaScript, fonts, page breaks, and content. When a PDF omits material, use the API’s error output and diagnostics, then check these likely causes:
Rank #4
- Transform audio playing via your speakers and headphones
- Improve sound quality by adjusting it with effects
- Take control over the sound playing through audio hardware
- Styles or images are missing: confirm their URLs are accessible from PDFCrowd’s servers; package local assets with uploaded HTML where appropriate.
- Dynamic content is absent: check JavaScript settings and wait conditions. Turning scripts off can also stop AJAX and lazy-loaded content.
- A local URL will not load: submit the HTML or upload the file and supporting assets instead of passing a localhost address.
- Private content is missing: supply the source-site access details separately from PDFCrowd API authentication, using the documented request options.
- The conversion takes too long: simplify or reduce the content where possible; a longer client timeout cannot bypass the documented 60-second server-side stop.
- The PDF layout is awkward: inspect print styles, page size, margins, page breaks, and any custom CSS or selected-element settings.
What the independent review can—and cannot—tell you
TechRadar reviewer Stefan Ionescu published “Pdfcrowd file converter review” on November 23, 2021. The review praised ease of use, speed, and browser availability, while describing the service as relatively barebones for advanced PDF features. Ionescu summarized it as “a special PDF converter aimed at users who want to use HTML as their input.” These are that reviewer’s dated assessments, not current performance measurements or a test of the service today. Its pricing and free-tier observations are historical and should not be treated as current plan details. See the TechRadar review and verify current plans on PDFCrowd’s live site before making a cost comparison.

ScreenshotNeo: an alternative when the output you need is a screenshot
PDFCrowd is for turning HTML and webpages into PDFs. If your actual deliverable is a webpage image rather than a PDF, try ScreenshotNeo, a website screenshot API and MCP server for developers. It returns PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF and can remove cookie/consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture. Its billing distinguishes clean shots from bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits in response headers. ScreenshotNeo also offers an MCP server for AI agents and supports one-call capture with configurable options.
Or skip the browser setup:
Make one GET request with your API key and target URL. See the ScreenshotNeo documentation for parameters and response details.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can PDFCrowd turn a page into an image instead of a PDF?
The PDFCrowd routes covered here generate PDFs. For webpage screenshots in PNG, JPEG, or WebP, ScreenshotNeo is an alternative.
Does a longer client timeout let a PDFCrowd conversion run past 60 seconds?
No. PDFCrowd’s API guide documents a server-side stop after 60 seconds; a longer timeout on your own client does not change that limit.
