pCloud lets you store files online, access them through desktop, web, and mobile apps, synchronize them across devices, and share them with other people. Start by deciding what you need it to do: keep a cloud copy, make files available on several devices, send links, or collaborate on folders. Then choose storage and sharing limits that fit that use.
What pCloud does
pCloud is a cloud storage service for uploading and organizing files, accessing them across devices, synchronizing folders, and sharing files or folders. Its official product pages also describe media playback, offline access, backups, file requests, and tools for recovering earlier versions. These are listed features, not a guarantee against every kind of data loss. See pCloud’s plans and features and its cloud storage overview.

You can use pCloud through its website, desktop software, or mobile app. A desktop app can provide pCloud Drive access, while mobile access is useful for viewing or uploading files away from your computer. Exact buttons and screen labels can change, so use the current app interface rather than relying on a fixed click sequence.

According to the pCloud Help Center, a new Basic account starts with 2 GB of storage. The service says users can unlock additional space through tutorial steps and referrals, up to 10 GB. Basic also includes 50 GB of shared-link traffic per month.

Storage and link traffic are different limits. Storage is the space your files occupy; link traffic is consumed when other people download content you have shared. If you regularly distribute large files, traffic may become a constraint even when your account has room for more files.
Add files and keep them organized
Upload from a computer or phone
Use the web interface, desktop app, or mobile app to add files from the device you are using. pCloud’s product material lists uploads from computers, mobile devices, cameras, and external drives. The exact upload controls vary by platform and may change over time; look for the current upload or add-file control in the app you use.
Organize uploaded content with folders that reflect how you expect to find it later—for example, by project, year, or file type. Keep in mind that a file stored in pCloud is not necessarily synchronized with a local folder unless you have configured the relevant sync or backup feature.

Use an external drive as a source
An external drive can be a source for files you upload, but it is optional; pCloud does not require a particular drive or model. An upload places a copy in cloud storage. It does not, by itself, keep the external drive and the cloud copy continuously synchronized.
Understand pCloud Drive, sync, offline access, and backup
pCloud Drive and synchronization
pCloud describes Drive and synchronization features that let users access files across devices and work with cloud-stored content without necessarily keeping every file permanently on local storage. Sync is useful when you want a working folder to stay consistent across devices, but changes or deletions can also propagate. Treat sync as a convenience for access and continuity, not as an independent backup strategy.
Offline access
The service lists offline access as a feature, particularly for mobile use. Make files available offline in the app before you lose connectivity, and confirm that the selected items are stored locally; a cloud-only file may not be available without a connection.

Backup
pCloud describes backup options for sources such as phone galleries and desktop folders, as well as third-party backup integrations. A backup is intended to preserve a copy from a source, while sync keeps locations aligned. For important files, retain another independent copy as well and verify that your chosen backup contains the items you expect.
Share files, folders, or a file request
Share a file or folder
pCloud offers shared links and shared folders. Links are useful when recipients only need access to particular content; folder sharing and collaboration suit people who need to work with shared material. The service also describes password protection for shared links. Before sending a link, check its access settings and whether the recipient needs view-only access or the ability to contribute.
Monthly shared-link traffic limits depend on plan: Basic has 50 GB; Premium, 1 TB; Premium Plus, 4 TB; and Ultra, 20 TB, according to the Help Center plan information. These limits concern traffic from shared content, not how much you can store. The product pages also describe a daily folder-sharing limit for Free and Premium accounts and unlimited folder sharing for Business; check the current account policy if that limit matters to your workflow.

Request files from other people
A file request lets you ask others to submit files to you, rather than having them send files through a shared folder they can browse. pCloud lists file requests among its features. Check the request’s settings before distributing it, especially if the files or destination folder are sensitive.
Recover earlier files when needed
pCloud’s pricing page describes the ability to restore previous versions and recover data from up to 30 days ago. This is a vendor-stated recovery window, not a promise that every file or account situation will have the same outcome. Check the recovery and version-history options available in your account and act promptly if you need an earlier copy.

pCloud says it uses TLS/SSL for channel protection and AES-256 encryption for the service. These are vendor claims about its security measures, not independent test results. Encryption in transit and encryption at rest are distinct from a feature that encrypts files on your device before transfer.

pCloud separately describes its optional pCloud Encryption feature as client-side encryption. Its explanation says, “Your files are encrypted on your device, before any transfer operation is initiated.” That statement applies to the optional Encryption feature; do not assume it automatically covers every file in an ordinary pCloud account. Review which files are protected and how the feature is configured in the current product information: pCloud Encryption.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Choose a plan based on storage, traffic, and users
The Help Center lists the following storage and monthly shared-link traffic allowances. Limits and plan packaging can change, so confirm them on the live plan page before subscribing.
| Plan | Storage | Monthly shared-link traffic | Typical fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | Up to 10 GB (starts at 2 GB) | 50 GB | Trying the service or storing a modest file collection |
| Premium | 500 GB | 1 TB | Individual use with moderate storage and sharing needs |
| Premium Plus | 2 TB | 4 TB | Individual use with a larger library or heavier sharing |
| Ultra | 10 TB | 20 TB | Individual use with substantial storage requirements |
pCloud also lists Family and Business options. Those plans address different needs from individual capacity tiers: Family is for multiple household users, while Business includes team-oriented administration. Compare the current user count, management controls, and billing terms on the official pricing page.
Billing may be monthly, annual, or lifetime depending on the plan and region. The pricing page’s US annual-price snapshot accessed in 2026 listed $49.99 per year for 500 GB, $99.99 per year for 2 TB, and $299.99 per year for 10 TB; these are time-sensitive figures, not guaranteed current prices. The page also describes lifetime plans and a 14-day money-back guarantee, whose terms may vary by plan or region. Check the live checkout terms before paying.
Before choosing, estimate both how much you will store and how often recipients will download shared files. If several people need managed access, compare Family or Business arrangements rather than simply buying more individual storage. Consider optional Encryption separately if client-side encryption is part of your requirements.
Is pCloud a good fit?
pCloud is worth considering if you want one service for cloud file storage, access across devices, synchronization, and link or folder sharing. The Basic account provides a way to try it, but the initial 2 GB and monthly link traffic allowance may not suit a large library or frequent downloads. Choose a paid tier by matching capacity and traffic limits to your use, and treat synchronization, recovery, and encryption according to their specific scopes rather than as blanket guarantees.
