Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →For a dedicated Palworld server, Pocketpair’s current baseline is at least four CPU cores and 16 GB of memory. Use 32 GB or more for a larger server; 8 GB may boot but carries a higher out-of-memory crash risk. A fast SSD, a 64-bit Windows or Linux host, and the ability to forward UDP port 8211 are also part of the setup.

Official Palworld dedicated-server requirements
| Component | Pocketpair’s documented guidance | What it means when planning a host |
|---|---|---|
| CPU | 4 cores or more recommended | No processor model or player-count formula is published. Treat four cores as the baseline, not a performance guarantee. |
| Memory (RAM) | 16 GB listed; 32 GB or more recommended for larger servers | 8 GB can boot, but the guide warns of a greater chance of out-of-memory crashes. |
| Storage | A faster SSD recommended | Pocketpair warns that low-performance storage can corrupt save data. Capacity and a specific SSD type are not stated. |
| Operating system | 64-bit Windows or Linux | Choose the platform you can maintain and secure; Linux deployment assumes some Linux knowledge. |
| Network | UDP port 8211 by default; the port can be changed | Your router must support port forwarding, and the host firewall may need an allow rule. |
| Installation methods | Steam, SteamCMD or the official Docker image | Steam is the easiest documented Windows path for beginners; SteamCMD is command-line based. |
Pocketpair does not publish a table mapping RAM or CPU cores to concurrent players. Actual demand depends on the world, activity, settings and any modifications, so leave upgrade headroom instead of treating the baseline as a fixed capacity promise.
How much RAM does a Palworld server need?
16 GB is the official starting point
Allocate 16 GB of memory for a normal dedicated-server deployment. This is the amount listed in the current official guide, not a measurement of a particular test world. The host operating system and other services also consume memory, so a machine with exactly 16 GB has less usable headroom than the headline number suggests.

When 32 GB makes sense
Pocketpair recommends 32 GB or more for larger servers. “Larger” is not defined by a published player threshold, so use the higher tier when you expect more simultaneous activity, a busy persistent world, several administrative tools or other workloads on the same machine. Keeping the server on its own host makes the allocation easier to control.
Why 8 GB is a risky minimum
“8GB is also bootable, but increases the possibility of server crashes due to out of memory.”
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
That is Pocketpair’s wording in the version 1.0.4 guide. Booting successfully does not mean the server has enough reserve for sustained play. If an 8 GB machine is already available, use it for a short, low-demand trial rather than planning it as a dependable long-term host.
CPU requirements and what four cores do not tell you
The official recommendation is four CPU cores or more. Pocketpair does not name a required CPU model, clock speed, benchmark score or player-count calculation. Consequently, “four cores” should be read as a floor for selecting a host, not as proof that every four-core processor will handle every world equally.

When comparing machines, prioritize a modern processor with four or more available cores and avoid sharing those cores with heavy, unrelated workloads. If a rented plan advertises only a fractional or “shared” CPU allocation, ask the provider how that allocation is defined before assuming it is equivalent to four physical cores. The official guide does not establish an equivalence between shared-vCPU labels and its four-core recommendation.
Storage: why Pocketpair emphasizes a faster SSD
Pocketpair recommends faster SSD storage and warns that low-performance storage can corrupt save data. The documentation does not require NVMe, specify a minimum capacity or give an I/O benchmark. Therefore, an NVMe drive is an optional way to pursue the faster-storage recommendation, not an official requirement.
Keep the server’s world files on the fastest reliable local storage available, maintain free space for updates and temporary files, and make backups before changing the installation or updating the server. A backup on a separate disk or service is useful because a second copy is not affected by a single drive failure or a damaged live save.
Network requirements, port forwarding and community servers
UDP 8211 is the default port
The documented default is UDP port 8211, and the port can be changed. To make a home-hosted server reachable from outside your network, forward the selected UDP port from the router to the server’s local address. Windows Firewall or another host firewall may also require an inbound rule for the same port. If you change the server port, use the new value consistently in the server configuration, router rule and any connection instructions.

Cross-platform access requires a community server
Xbox and PlayStation 5 players need the server deployed as a community server. In Pocketpair’s terminology, that is still a dedicated server, but it is additionally registered in the in-game server list. A private dedicated server that is not registered as a community server does not provide the documented Xbox/PS5 access path.
What to verify before choosing a host
- The router or hosting control panel permits UDP forwarding on the selected port.
- The operating system firewall can allow the server process and port.
- Your host has a stable public-reachability path; if your network cannot accept inbound forwarding, home hosting may not be practical.
- The service supports community-server registration if Xbox or PS5 players must join.
Dedicated server versus a game-client host
A dedicated server runs the world separately from the game client. The host does not need to keep the playable client open for the world to remain available. This is different from inviting friends into a session that exists only while a player’s client is running.
A community server is not a separate server product. It is a dedicated server with the additional in-game-list registration needed for the documented Xbox and PS5 scenario. Choose the community configuration only when that cross-platform discoverability is required.
Self-hosting, Docker or managed hosting?
| Option | Best fit | Advantages | Responsibilities and limits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Windows with Steam | New administrators who already have a 64-bit Windows machine | Pocketpair calls this the easiest setup for people without game-server experience. | You still provide an always-on machine, storage, firewall rules, router forwarding and backups. |
| Windows or Linux with SteamCMD | Administrators who want command-line installation and update control | Works on both documented operating-system families and is suitable for scripted maintenance. | Requires comfort with command-line tools; Linux deployment assumes Linux knowledge. |
| Official Docker image | Operators who already manage containers on a suitable host | Reproducible deployment through an image and Compose configuration. | Adapt the sample to your environment, verify save data, back up before image updates and match the image tag to the game version. Docker Desktop on Windows or macOS is discouraged because of limited disk I/O. |
| Managed game-server hosting | People who do not want to maintain hardware or home networking | Usually removes the need to operate an always-on home machine and configure a residential router. | Compare the actual allocated RAM and CPU, SSD performance, region, backups, restore process, update/restart controls, platform support, migration terms and recurring price. Provider performance and pricing are not established by Pocketpair’s guide. |
Renting a managed server is a practical inference from the administration burden, not an endorsement of any particular company. Confirm community-server support before paying if console players are part of your group.

Windows installation paths
Steam client method
- Use a 64-bit Windows machine that meets the CPU, memory and SSD guidance.
- Install the dedicated-server files through Steam, following Pocketpair’s current Windows instructions.
- Allow the server application through Windows Firewall and forward UDP 8211 on the router, unless you deliberately selected another port.
- Start the server with
PalServer.exe. - Confirm that the world starts and that the save location is included in your backup routine before inviting players.
This is the path Pocketpair identifies as easiest for people without prior game-server experience.
SteamCMD method
SteamCMD provides command-line installation and update management. Pocketpair documents this command:
steamcmd +login anonymous +app_update 2394010 validate +quit
The number 2394010 is the documented Palworld dedicated-server app ID. After installation, launch the Windows server with PalServer.exe. Keep the command and the launch process in your maintenance notes so updates can be repeated consistently.
Linux installation
Pocketpair documents Linux deployment through SteamCMD. Install the server with the same app-update command shown above, apply the required firewall rule for the chosen UDP port, and start the server with:
Best Value
- CPU: AMD Ryzen7 5700X (up to 4.6GHz) 8-Core 16-Thread to easily handle multi-line tasks
- Main board: MSI B550M-A PRO motherboard provides reliable performance and stability
- GPU: Geforce RTX 5060 8GB GDDR7 Graphics Cards (Brand may vary) Support DLSS 4 multi frame generation, ray tracing, and Reflex 2 delay optimization
- RAM: 32GB DDR4 3200MHz (16GB*2) SSD: 1TB M.2 NVMe PCIe
- Power supply: 650W (80plus bronze) certified for energy efficiency and stable performance
./PalServer.sh
Linux is supported, but the official guide assumes that the administrator is comfortable with Linux package management, permissions, services and firewall configuration. If those tasks are unfamiliar, the documented Windows-with-Steam path or a managed host may reduce setup risk.
Docker deployment and its storage warning
The official Docker repository supplies an image and a sample Compose file. Treat the sample as a starting point: adapt paths, networking and resource limits to your environment, and verify that save data is written where you expect.
- Back up the world before updating the image.
- Match the image tag to the game version so the container and clients do not drift apart.
- Verify that the save directory is persisted outside the disposable container layer.
- Avoid Docker Desktop on Windows or macOS for this use case; Pocketpair’s guidance cites limited disk read/write speed and an increased risk of save corruption or malfunction from that I/O path.
How to choose a managed host without relying on a headline plan
Do not select a plan from RAM alone. Ask for the resources and policies that determine whether the server remains usable as the world grows:
- Memory allocation: verify whether the advertised figure is dedicated to your instance and start at 16 GB; choose 32 GB or more for a larger deployment.
- CPU allocation: ask how many cores or what CPU share is actually reserved. A vague “high performance” label cannot be compared directly with Pocketpair’s four-core recommendation.
- Storage: confirm SSD-backed storage and how often snapshots or backups run. Pocketpair specifically warns about low-performance storage and save corruption.
- Region and latency: select a location close to most players, while recognizing that the official guide does not publish latency targets.
- Recovery controls: check whether you can download saves, restore a previous backup and migrate elsewhere.
- Operations: look for controlled updates, scheduled restarts, logs and a way to change RAM or CPU without rebuilding the world.
- Platform access: confirm community-server registration if Xbox or PS5 players must connect.
- Terms: read recurring charges, cancellation, retention and migration policies before uploading a valuable world.
Client requirements are not server requirements
The Steam listing separately describes the playable Palworld client, including 16 GB minimum memory, 32 GB recommended memory, Windows 10/11 and an SSD requirement. Those figures apply to the game client and should not be substituted for Pocketpair’s dedicated-server guidance. A machine can satisfy the client listing yet still be a poor server if it lacks the documented CPU headroom, reliable SSD I/O, network reachability or an appropriate operating-system setup.
Quick Recap
Troubleshooting common requirement failures
| Symptom | Likely requirement issue | Action |
|---|---|---|
| Server starts, then crashes with an out-of-memory error | Only 8 GB is available, or other processes consume the reserve | Move to at least 16 GB; use 32 GB or more for a larger world and reduce unrelated workloads. |
| Save corruption or unusually slow world operations | Low-performance storage | Move the installation and save files to faster SSD storage, then restore a known-good backup before continuing. |
| Players outside the home cannot connect | UDP forwarding or firewall rule is missing, or the server port was changed without updating the network rule | Forward the selected UDP port to the server’s local address and allow the server through the host firewall. |
| Xbox or PS5 players cannot find the server | The instance is not registered as a community server | Deploy and register it as a community server, then verify that the host supports that mode. |
| Container behaves incorrectly after an update | Image tag does not match the game version, or save storage was not persisted | Restore the backup, align the image tag with the game version and verify the mounted save location. |
| Linux launch fails immediately | Permissions, dependencies or command-line configuration are incomplete | Review the Linux SteamCMD installation, make PalServer.sh executable and check the host’s firewall and service logs. |
A practical pre-launch checklist
- 64-bit Windows or Linux is installed and kept updated.
- The machine has four or more available CPU cores.
- Memory is 16 GB for a baseline deployment, with 32 GB or more planned for a larger server.
- Server files and saves are on reliable, faster SSD storage.
- UDP 8211 is forwarded, or the replacement port is forwarded consistently.
- The host firewall permits the server process and selected port.
- A tested backup exists before the first major update.
- Docker deployments use persistent save storage, a version-matched image tag and a backup made before image changes.
- Community-server registration is enabled when Xbox or PS5 access is required.
- You have decided who handles restarts, updates, backups and recovery when the server is unavailable.
