Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS) is an integrated suite of enterprise applications that organizations use to manage functions such as finance, human resources, procurement, projects, customer relationships, and supply chains. It is not a single-purpose tool: its applications cover multiple business processes and share supporting technology.
What does Oracle E-Business Suite do?
EBS brings applications for different departments and business processes into one suite. Oracle describes it as designed to help organizations make informed decisions, reduce costs, and enhance performance. Its breadth means an organization can use relevant applications across several functions rather than treating EBS as only an accounting or customer-management product.

Which business functions does EBS cover?
Oracle’s product overview lists these functional areas:
- Customer relationship management and service management
- Financial management
- Human capital management
- Project portfolio management
- Procurement
- Supply chain management
- Value chain planning and value chain execution
The applications an organization uses depend on its needs and implementation; the list describes the suite’s scope, not a requirement to deploy every area. See Oracle’s E-Business Suite overview for its product description.

Is Oracle E-Business Suite an ERP system?
EBS is commonly understood as an enterprise resource planning (ERP) suite because it supports core organizational operations, including financial management, procurement, and supply chain processes. But “ERP” alone can understate its scope: Oracle also includes applications for customer and service management, human capital, projects, and value chain functions. “Integrated enterprise applications” is the broader description.
How are EBS applications organized?
The suite combines product-specific applications with shared technology services. Oracle’s Release 12.2 Concepts guide describes a technology layer between the technology stack and product modules, including shared components such as Applications DBA, Application Object Library, Workflow, and Application Framework. This architecture helps explain how distinct business functions fit within the same suite; the Oracle E-Business Suite Documentation Web Library Release 12.2 is the starting point for the Concepts guide and other product documentation.
How do users work in EBS?
Oracle’s User’s Guide covers both HTML-based and forms-based applications. Common tasks include querying and entering data, scheduling and monitoring requests, and running reports. The exact screens and workflows depend on the application and implementation. Oracle’s Oracle E-Business Suite User’s Guide explains these interaction patterns.

What do Release 12.2 and Oracle support mean?
Oracle’s documentation library and current What’s New material are for Release 12.2. Listed feature updates vary by application area, so an update number for one product should not be treated as a single version number shared by every EBS application. Check the relevant area in Oracle’s E-Business Suite What’s New documentation for applicable updates.

For on-premises applications, Oracle says Premier Support for Continuous Innovation releases will continue through at least 2037 and that it will review annually whether to extend the offering. This is Oracle’s stated support commitment, subject to its terms—not a guarantee beyond them. Oracle also describes the option of remaining on-premises or moving to cloud with the same applications and customizations. Consult Oracle’s E-Business Suite Support page for current terms and details.
