OpenSea’s published limits depend on how you create an item: the Creator FAQ lists JPG, PNG, GIF, and SVG for Drops, and names MP4 for direct Collection or Item uploads. It sets a 5 GB media-file maximum for Drops and 50 MB for a direct single-item upload. The FAQ does not enumerate every direct-upload extension, so treat MP4 as the specifically named format, not a complete list. These limits are workflow-specific, and OpenSea’s former lazy-minting tool is no longer available for adding items to existing collections.
Which file formats and size limits apply?
OpenSea’s Creator FAQ, dated July 21, 2025, gives different requirements for Drops, direct item uploads, and collection overview media. The 50 MB and 5 GB figures are maximum media-file sizes stated by OpenSea, not guarantees that every file type or Studio workflow accepts every file within those sizes. OpenSea Creator FAQ

OpenSea’s Studio comparison describes Drops as ERC-721 workflows and Create a Collection as ERC-1155. Those are workflow distinctions as well as upload distinctions; a Drop is designed for bulk media, while direct Collection or Item creation mints into the creator’s wallet. What to check before choosing a workflow
For a Drop
- Prepare the media in one of the listed formats: JPG, PNG, GIF, or SVG.
- Keep each media file within the stated 5 GB maximum.
- Plan for bulk upload and for items to appear after the Drop’s minting or reveal conditions.
For a direct Collection or Item upload
- MP4 is the specifically named format in the FAQ; it does not establish a complete list of image, video, or audio extensions for this workflow.
- Keep the media file within 50 MB for a single item.
- Use one file type consistently across all items in a collection; the FAQ says all items in the same collection must share a file type.
For the collection overview page
Overview media has its own 50 MB limit and its own listed formats: JPG, PNG, GIF, SVG, and MP4. Do not treat that page-media allowance as the per-item upload limit.

Can you upload a GLB file or add items to a lazy-minted collection?
OpenSea says GLB files can display when hosted off-platform, but cannot be uploaded directly in Studio. If you need a GLB-based item, the available information supports off-platform hosting rather than a direct Studio upload. OpenSea Creator FAQ
OpenSea’s Creator FAQ also says that no additional NFTs can be minted into collections created with its former lazy-minting tool. The title’s “lazy minting” wording refers to that former tool; for new items, use a currently available Studio workflow rather than expecting to extend one of those collections. OpenSea Creator FAQ

How many files can a Drop contain?
OpenSea’s 2026 guidance conflicts: a September guide says Drops can upload up to 15,000 media files, while a May FAQ says the maximum is 10,000. Because both are OpenSea Help Center sources and state different caps, neither figure should be treated as a settled current limit.
