If DJI Assistant 2 does not recognize your DJI controller or aircraft, first confirm that you installed the edition made for that exact model. Then check that the device is powered on, try a known-good USB data cable and another computer port, and—on Windows—look for driver errors in Device Manager. DJI Assistant 2 is a family of product-specific packages, not one universal installer.
Identify the device and the right Assistant 2 edition
Start by noting the exact model printed on the controller or aircraft and the full name of the DJI Assistant 2 edition installed on your computer. DJI’s firmware instructions state that “Different aircraft use different versions of DJI Assistant 2.” Use the download page for your product group and select the matching edition; the Consumer Drones Series download page lists its supported products. DJI also has a separate Smart Controller downloads page that identifies Assistant 2 for Mavic. Do not assume that an installer for one DJI product will detect another.

The Consumer Drones Series page listed version 2.1.42, with release notes dated September 22, 2026, when checked October 7, 2026. Software listings can change, so check the product-specific page for the current installer before troubleshooting with an old copy. The Smart Controller page lists Assistant 2 for Mavic version 2.0.14, dated August 5, 2020, and says it is not compatible with macOS 11 or later. Because this is a legacy-product page, confirm the support page for your exact model and operating system before relying on that compatibility note.

Work through the connection checks
- Power on the device. Unless your model’s instructions say otherwise, turn on the controller or aircraft before connecting it to the computer. DJI recommends checking that the connected device is powered on.
- Check the cable. Use a known-good cable that supports data, not just charging. If you try another cable, match its connector to the port on your exact device; DJI does not identify one connector type that applies to every controller and aircraft.
- Change the computer’s USB port. Disconnect the device, connect it directly to another available port, and reopen the correct Assistant 2 edition. This helps rule out a faulty port or an unreliable connection.
- Try another computer if available. If the device still is not listed, test the same device and cable on another computer. DJI includes this as a troubleshooting check.
For camera-drone firmware work, DJI’s documented workflow is to power on the aircraft, connect it to the computer by USB, open the appropriate Assistant 2 edition, sign in, select the aircraft under Connected Devices, and choose Upgrade. If the device never appears under Connected Devices, resolve recognition before proceeding with an upgrade. See DJI’s firmware instructions for the product-specific process.

Check Windows drivers and Assistant 2 installation
On Windows, open Device Manager and check whether the connected DJI device or its driver appears with an error. DJI says Assistant 2 installs its latest DJI driver, so first ensure the correct Assistant 2 edition is installed and complete its installation. Do not download driver files from third-party sites or install a generic driver in place of DJI’s software.
If antivirus software is interfering with installation or recognition, DJI’s troubleshooting guidance recommends reinstalling Assistant 2. Use the installer for your product and operating system from DJI’s official download page. If you are on macOS, check the exact product’s current support page for compatibility rather than assuming that another Assistant 2 edition’s operating-system support applies.

Remote controllers and flight controllers need different guidance
“Controller” may refer to a remote controller used to operate an aircraft or a dedicated flight controller installed in an aircraft. Their connection and upgrade procedures are not interchangeable.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsDJI remote controller
Use the Assistant 2 edition associated with the exact controller or aircraft model, and follow that product’s official connection instructions. The available DJI guidance does not establish one universal port, cable connector, or procedure for every remote controller, so do not apply a flight-controller-specific connection step to a remote controller.

Legacy DJI A3 flight controller
For the A3, DJI’s FAQ advises confirming that the driver and Assistant software installed successfully, checking the cable and controller power, and trying another cable or computer port. For A3 communication upgrades specifically, DJI says to use the USB port on the LED module. That detail applies to the A3 procedure; it should not be generalized to modern remote controllers.
