For most MX Master 4 owners, Logi Options+ is the straightforward choice: Logitech lists the mouse as supported and documents its Actions Ring and haptics features there. Consider OpenLogi if Linux support, local TOML configuration, or its documented customization options matter more to you—and you are comfortable with a project whose own documentation says it is still under active development and not yet stable. Do not run both apps at once: they compete for access to the mouse or receiver.
How the two apps differ
Logi Options+ is Logitech’s official device-customization app. OpenLogi is an independent project that describes itself as a local-first alternative and says it is not affiliated with Logitech. Their feature descriptions come from their respective publishers; the available sources do not establish independent performance or reliability comparisons.

| Decision | Logi Options+ | OpenLogi |
|---|---|---|
| Status | Official Logitech app; MX Master 4 is listed as supported (Logitech product page). | Independent project; its site says it is not affiliated with Logitech (OpenLogi documentation). |
| Documented MX Master 4 features | Logitech advertises Haptics for MX Master 4, and Actions Ring for supported MX devices (Logitech product page). | Project documentation lists remapping, DPI, SmartShift, scrolling controls, per-app bindings, and Haptic Sense Panel support; these are project claims, not independent verification (OpenLogi documentation). |
| Platforms | The U.S. page lists Windows 10 or later and macOS 14 or later (Logitech product page). | The project lists macOS, Linux, and Windows, describes Linux as a first-class platform, and notes Windows support is newer (OpenLogi documentation; project repository). |
| Configuration and privacy | The consulted Logitech page does not establish a comparable local-only guarantee (Logitech product page). | OpenLogi says it requires no account or telemetry and stores bindings in a local TOML file; these are project statements, not an independent audit (OpenLogi documentation). |
| Stability | Presented by Logitech as its supported customization app (Logitech product page). | Its documentation says the project is under active development and not yet stable; features and configuration may change (OpenLogi documentation). |
| Using both | OpenLogi says the apps compete for HID++ access and only one can own a receiver at a time (OpenLogi documentation). | |
Choose Logi Options+ for Logitech’s documented feature path
Logitech lists MX Master 4 among the devices supported by Options+. Its page advertises Actions Ring and Marketplace for MX devices, subject to listed exceptions, and says Haptics are currently available with MX Master 4. Check Logitech’s current requirements for your region: the U.S. page lists Windows 10 or later and macOS 14 or later.
Windows 11 native haptics
In an announcement dated May 20, 2026, Logitech said an Options+ firmware update enables native haptic feedback for selected Windows 11 actions when using the latest updated Windows 11 version. Its examples include aligning objects in PowerPoint and snapping or resizing windows. Logitech said additional effects would roll out; the announcement does not establish every later Windows or firmware change. Read Logitech’s announcement.

Consider OpenLogi for local configuration or Linux
OpenLogi describes itself as a native, local-first alternative written in Rust. Its documentation says button remapping uses an operating-system input hook, while device controls such as DPI, SmartShift, scrolling, and lighting are written over HID++. For mice, the project lists per-app bindings, gestures, DPI presets, scroll options, thumb-wheel control, and MX Master 4 Haptic Sense Panel support. Treat these as features documented by the project, not verified feature parity with Options+.
The project documentation identifies published v0.8.11 as its baseline and says it was last updated October 3, 2026. It also warns that OpenLogi is not yet stable. The project repository lists macOS, Linux, and Windows support, with Windows support newer than the macOS build. Release details and compatibility can change, so check the current documentation and release information for your operating system before installing.

Check compatibility and avoid an ownership conflict
OpenLogi says it can communicate with compatible Logitech HID++ devices through Logi Bolt, Unifying, and Lightspeed receivers, Bluetooth-direct connections, or USB. Its documentation instructs users to quit Options+ before installing or launching OpenLogi because the apps compete for HID++ access. On Linux, it says the same ownership conflict applies to Solaar. Use one active controller for a given receiver rather than expecting both utilities to manage it together.
