For PlayStation Store games and add-ons, a refund is generally possible only if you request it within the applicable window and have not started downloading or streaming the content. Sony’s rules vary by account region and purchase type, so a 14-day window is not a universal try-before-you-buy guarantee. Pre-orders, in-game items, and subscriptions have separate conditions.
Can you get a refund on a PlayStation game or add-on?
Sony’s UK and Canada policies say you can request cancellation of a game or game add-on within 14 days of purchase if the content has not started downloading or streaming. Once downloading or streaming has begun, it is generally ineligible under those policies unless the content is faulty. Contact support about faulty content, but approval is not guaranteed.

Pre-orders follow a schedule tied to both the payment date and release date. Sony’s US, UK, and Canada guidance describes these conditions:

Preloading counts as downloading the main content. Automatic downloads may begin without you manually starting them, so check your download status and auto-download settings promptly if you are considering cancellation. Cancelling a pre-order can also remove access to bonus content made available before launch. In-game currency and consumable items
Virtual currency, boosts, and other items that are used up during gameplay have a different delivery condition. Sony’s Ireland guidance says the purchase must be within 14 days, bought through PlayStation Store, and the game must not have been launched after purchase. The UK and Canada policies explain why: items bought through the Store outside gameplay are delivered the next time you launch the game; items bought during gameplay are delivered immediately. Once delivered, these consumables are not refundable under those policies unless faulty.

That means launching the game after purchasing an item can affect eligibility even if you have not spent the item. These rules concern consumables and should not be confused with the separate game-and-add-on download rule.

A subscription refund and stopping future renewal are separate actions. Sony’s Ireland, UK, and Canada materials describe a 14-day refund request window from the initial subscription transaction. Free-trial days count toward that period, and use of the service can reduce the refund; UK and Canada guidance describes a pro-rata reduction for service already used. The Ireland guidance identifies online play, monthly game downloads, and cloud storage as examples of use that may reduce the amount.

The cited Ireland guidance limits the refund request to the first payment rather than a recurring fee. If you only want to prevent a future charge, cancel the subscription renewal separately: under the UK and Canada policy, service generally continues until the next payment date, and cancellation does not refund a past payment.

How to request a refund
- Check the account region and purchase type. Open the official PlayStation Support refund page for the country associated with your account. Confirm whether the purchase is a game or add-on, pre-order, consumable, or subscription.
- Check the relevant timing and use conditions. Note the purchase date, release date if it is a pre-order, and whether downloading, streaming, launching the game, or using the subscription may have affected eligibility.
- Contact PlayStation Support or use its online assistant. The Ireland support page provides both routes: requesting a PlayStation Store refund. Follow the current support flow for your region.
- Check the payment destination and timing for your market. In Ireland, Sony says a refund may take 10 days and goes to the original payment method where possible; if that is not possible, the refund is credited to the PlayStation wallet. This timing and fallback are Ireland-specific, not a worldwide guarantee.
Purchases that may need a different route
- Wallet top-ups: Sony’s Ireland, UK, and Canada guidance says wallet top-ups cannot be cancelled.
- Voucher codes bought from a retailer: Contact the retailer, because the code was purchased outside PlayStation Store.
- Local rights or payment exceptions: Store policy may not describe every local consumer right or payment-method exception. Check the applicable regional page and, where relevant, local rules.
