The OnePlus Open remains an appealing 2023 foldable if you want a roomy inner display, a cover screen that reviewers found practical, capable cameras, and multitasking tools. Its trade-offs are significant: it has no wireless charging, only an IPX4 rating according to WIRED, and software support is already partway through its promised window. In 2026, whether it is worth buying depends on the specific unit’s price, condition, regional warranty, and remaining support—not its launch-era praise alone.
What is the OnePlus Open?
OnePlus launched the Open on October 19, 2023, as its first foldable. The announced configuration paired a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 platform with 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage. OnePlus lists a dual-cell battery rated at 3,295mAh plus 1,510mAh; its launch announcement describes the typical capacity as 4,805mAh. OnePlus’s launch announcement and official specifications are the sources for those figures.

It is a book-style foldable: open it for a large inner screen, or use the outer screen like a conventional phone. The hardware and software were reviewed positively in 2023 and 2024, but those reviews are historical assessments, not comparisons with foldables released in 2026.
What are the pros and cons of the OnePlus Open?
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Reviewers praised the usable cover screen and the large, smooth AMOLED displays. | WIRED reports an IPX4 water-resistance rating; this is not a strong level of ingress protection for a foldable. |
| Open Canvas supports arranging and switching among multiple apps on the inner display. | There is no wireless charging. |
| Launch-era reviews regarded the camera system as unusually capable for a foldable. | Some reviewers noted OxygenOS rough edges or bugs. |
| The 4,805mAh typical battery and 67W wired SUPERVOOC charging were among the hardware highlights. | Fast wired charging uses OnePlus’s USB-A adapter; WIRED also noted no DisplayPort over USB-C. |
| The cover-screen shape can feel more familiar than a narrow outer display. | TechRadar said performance and battery life could improve; real-world results vary with use and battery condition. |
These are review-period observations, not guarantees for every used handset. WIRED rated the phone 7/10 in 2023, while Android Authority and TechRadar also praised aspects of its hardware and multitasking. Their rankings and comparisons reflect the devices and software available when they reviewed it. See WIRED’s review, Android Authority’s review, and TechRadar’s review.
How good are the OnePlus Open displays and multitasking?
The Open’s core appeal is the transition between a normal-sized cover display and a much larger inner canvas. WIRED described running three apps on the 7.82-inch inner display, and Android Authority highlighted Open Canvas as a useful approach to multitasking. That makes the phone suited to people who regularly split attention between tasks—such as checking a message while reading or keeping a reference open beside another app.
Multitasking benefits depend on the apps and how well they adapt to a foldable screen. A larger display does not guarantee that every app will use the space well, and the launch-era reviews do not establish how every app behaves on current software.

- Cosmetic Condition: Grade B+
- Screen Size: 7.8 in.
How good are the OnePlus Open cameras?
WIRED, Android Authority, and TechRadar all viewed the camera system as a strength for a foldable in their review periods. That supports calling the cameras capable, but it does not establish that they outperform current 2026 competitors: the cited assessments are not fresh, head-to-head tests. If camera quality is a deciding factor, compare recent sample photos and video from the exact alternatives you are considering rather than relying on those older rankings.
Does the OnePlus Open have wireless charging?
No. WIRED and Android Authority both identify the absence of wireless charging. Wired charging is rated at 67W SUPERVOOC. OnePlus’s launch announcement claimed about 42 minutes to charge from 1% to 100% under a controlled manufacturer test using its official adapter and specified mode; that is not a guaranteed everyday charging time. Check whether the particular listing includes a compatible adapter, especially if buying used.

How durable is the OnePlus Open?
WIRED reports an IPX4 rating, and Android Authority also flags the phone’s limited water-protection credentials. Treat that rating as a meaningful compromise rather than assuming the Open can tolerate immersion or rough exposure to water. Foldables also have a flexible inner display and hinge, so inspect both carefully on a used unit and confirm what damage is covered by the seller’s return terms and any regional warranty.
WIRED also noted that the phone lacks DisplayPort over USB-C. If you expect to connect a phone directly to an external display over USB-C, verify that the connection method you need is supported before buying.

How long will the OnePlus Open get software updates?
OnePlus’s specifications page promises at least four generations of Android OS upgrades and five years of security updates from launch. The policy is measured from the phone’s launch, not from the day a second owner buys it. It does not, by itself, identify the exact OS version or security-patch level currently installed; check the handset’s update screen and OnePlus’s current regional support information before purchase. OnePlus’s official specifications page states the commitment.

It can make sense if the price is compelling, the unit is in excellent condition, and the seller offers dependable returns and region-appropriate warranty or service. Its large inner display, practical cover screen, multitasking approach, and well-regarded cameras remain the strongest reasons to consider it. It is a harder recommendation if you need wireless charging, stronger water protection, or a long support runway ahead.
