Its 50MP main and 2× telephoto cameras add flexibility, but camera results can vary, the 8MP ultrawide is modest, and there is no wireless charging. Whether it is good value now depends on the price and regional configuration you can actually buy.
What you get
OnePlus announced the 13 series globally on January 7, 2025. The 13R launched with OxygenOS 15, a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor and a 6,000mAh typical-capacity battery. The North American model’s official specification page lists 12GB of LPDDR5X memory and 256GB of UFS 4.0 storage; launch configurations differed by region, so check the exact model before buying. OnePlus’s launch announcement and North American specifications provide the regional details.

OnePlus lists a peak brightness of 4,500 nits, but that is a manufacturer specification, not a typical-brightness measurement. In Tom’s Guide’s HDR brightness test, the display measured 746 nits; the same review reported that it remained viewable in sunlight during use. Those figures describe different conditions and should not be treated as contradictory. Tom’s Guide’s January 2025 review reports its own test results.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 was also used in several 2024 Android flagships, giving the 13R a high-performance foundation for demanding apps and games. In Tom’s Guide’s review tests, it scored 2,098 single-core and 6,533 multicore in Geekbench 6, and 115.3fps in 3DMark Wild Life Unlimited. These are results from that publication’s testing, not guaranteed scores for every device or workload.

For everyday use, the practical appeal is a combination of a fast processor, 12GB of RAM in the North American configuration and a high-refresh-rate display. The 1–120Hz adaptive panel can adjust its refresh rate; it does not mean every app or task runs at 120Hz.
Battery life and charging depend on your region
The 6,000mAh typical-capacity battery is a major part of the 13R’s appeal. Tom’s Guide measured 18 hours 49 minutes in its continuous cellular web-browsing test in 2025, 37 minutes longer than its OnePlus 12R result in that test. Treat that as a controlled publication test, not a promise of a particular number of hours in ordinary use; screen settings, signal conditions and workload affect runtime.
Charging is not identical across markets: OnePlus lists 55W SUPERVOOC for North America, while its launch announcement says 80W in most other launch regions. Confirm the supported rate and whether a suitable adapter is included with the specific phone and seller you are considering. Battery capacity and charging speed do not imply wireless charging; the 13R does not support it, according to Tom’s Guide.

Cameras: useful reach, uneven results
The rear camera setup is more versatile than a phone with only a main camera: it includes a dedicated 50MP telephoto camera with 2× optical zoom, alongside a 50MP stabilized main camera and an 8MP ultrawide. OnePlus also describes in-sensor zoom processing beyond 4× in its launch announcement. That is a processing feature, not a substitute for additional optical zoom lenses.
Tom’s Guide found the 13R could produce vivid, attractive photos and sometimes handled night lights well, but noted variation from image to image. The reviewer found its processing brighter and more colorful, and preferred the Pixel 8a for some low-light detail, 2× zoom detail and portrait examples. Those are scene-specific judgments from one review, not a universal camera ranking. The ultrawide’s 8MP resolution is also notably lower than the main and telephoto cameras, making it the clearest hardware compromise for wide landscape or group shots.
Design and durability: check the size in your hand
At 206g and 161.72mm tall, with a 6.78-inch display, the 13R is a large phone. That can suit people who prioritize screen space, but one-handed use may be awkward, particularly for smaller hands; Tom’s Guide noted the size challenge as well.

OnePlus’s launch announcement gives the phone an IP65 rating. This is a manufacturer-rated dust and water-resistance classification, not permission to submerge the device. Avoid treating it as a waterproof guarantee.

Pros
- Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 performance, supported by strong results in Tom’s Guide’s review benchmarks.
- Long endurance in Tom’s Guide’s cellular browsing test.
- Large, high-resolution LTPO display with a dynamic 1–120Hz refresh rate.
- A dedicated 2× telephoto camera adds useful framing options beyond the main camera.
Cons
- Camera color and exposure may not suit everyone, and Tom’s Guide preferred a competing phone in some low-light, zoom-detail and portrait comparisons.
- The 8MP ultrawide is a lower-resolution option than the other rear cameras.
- No wireless charging.
- The large body and 206g weight may compromise comfort for smaller hands.
- Charging speed varies by region, and adapter contents need to be checked for the exact retail package.
Is the OnePlus 13R worth buying?
Consider the 13R if your priorities are speed, screen size and battery endurance, and you are comfortable with a large handset and wired-only charging. It is less compelling if you prioritize wireless charging, a compact design, or consistently detailed ultrawide and camera results.
Price should decide the final verdict. Tom’s Guide recorded launch prices of $599 for the 256GB model in the U.S. and £679 in the U.K.; those are review-era launch figures from January 2025, not current offers. Current price and stock have not been established here, so check the live listing, seller, regional model and included charger before comparing value. The review’s dated camera comparisons are useful context, but do not substitute for deciding which processing style and shooting features matter to you.
